Physical Intelligence - Day 78

Physical Intelligence - Day 78

Day 78 Physical

Intelligence
BRONZE LEARNING HIVE

FITNESS

The chief lesson from this weekend has been about age appropriate nutrition.  With a large family that has a lot of kids and those kids producing the next generation that now represents two active grand-children, I can't change what the family decides will be the family meal, I can only become more discerning that at a personal level I can no longer eat like a 19 year old.

There are physical and metabolic differences and while yesterday's barbecue was a spread fit for a King, I don't particularly have or even want King Henry VIII's disposition.  It was tough to resist the quality of the burgers that the barbecue aficionados in our home conjured up.  A third of the spread however did include white meat like chicken, so that is what I focused on.

It is a very long leap to study life longevity and even if we can add that to our age appropriate education, how much of what it is we learn fits the urban lifestyle that people like me lead. This video about life longevity in Okinawa also introduces many life and work practices that do not translate to the life that is home to me.  There are some psychological considerations in this video that make it interesting but these considerations like dealing with our emotional being is appropriate to adults of all ages :

So we listen to people like Dr. Stella Volpe who study individuals who have already been corrupted by the unnatural career path mindset that all of us do not question and then equally why retirement is set up in a distinct way, with distinct ideas about what retirement is or should be.  So we measure in studies a way of life that is sub-optimal living, but these studies don't prompt a transformation in how we operate as a society, and worse - we discover that the "experts' in exercise and nutrition studies offer cures and symptoms rather than prevention and root cause.

As sensible I should be about eating for my age, my age is not chronological it is biological and from a biological existence I may well have a body of a 70 year old, whereas a more active middle age person may still have the body of a 30 year old.  That is quite a difference all based on how we live our life and our attitude to work as a natural thing.  No wonder the world of nutrition is a minefield of different views and that it is so hard to get a clear handle on what actually works.  What makes what actually works so difficult is that in terms of physical intelligence - one size does not fit all - we need to map our physical intelligence to our own unique make up and map of life and living (how we live under social rules and how we choose to live with our own individual choices).

I concur Cyndi wilkins - not just treatments but prescriptions. We have become a prescriptive society rather than a consultative one. This has turned doctors into prescribers and pharmaceutical companies target doctors to ensure they keep to Big Pharma's script. In that regard it is not ironic that doctors write out scripts and it is more likely today to imagine a beautiful blond sales woman walk into a male doctors office offering the doctor (prescriber) their own Pharma version of "Bad Medicine" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86gCYjwVB78

Appreciate that. Ironically as digestion of new knowledge, many technological companies believe that young people are more open to new knowledge and that the metaphorical metabolism of older people slows down for innovation, but if that was true then why does the technology industry celebrate boomers who made the most fundamental contributions - people like Tim Berners-Lee and Vint Cerf who is even older? Why not call them yesterday's news and hold aloft some new 20 something? In ageism we find the metabolic equivalent of knowledge and that meme which the young now believe is a millennial view, was actually put there by the same boomers who now are the victims of their own youth age obsession with youth culture. In the narcissism of the 60's when boomers celebrated themselves, but now they have done unto themselves what they did to their own generation. It is payback time for their own beliefs - or at least those who still sniff and snort on this 20th Century mindset. The same theme flows into my contemplation of a GENERATION X2 https://www.bebee.com/producer/@cityvp/generation-x2 So whether it is concrete or abstract as an idea, it is worth reflecting upon, because otherwise we accept either an inherited orthodoxy or a mythology whose myth is in need of busting. For now before I get to the sociological layers under the physical - it is worth looking first directly at the physical.

I am focused here on actual physical and metabolic differences between me as a 16 year old and me as a 56 year old, though the example actually used alludes to 19, the end of our teenage years. The adult body needs far less of the food fuel type that a still growing and developing teenager does. I noticed that I continue to eat for the body of a growing teenager, when I should be more mindful about what a body of a middle aged person does - and I am not getting any younger in that regard. Whether physically outside or metabolically inside of me - unless I shift towards body-building as a goal, what my family prepare is guided by the needs of our many young adult members - and an adjustment for me is necessary - even if in the past I ate like a teenager for a teenage body - those times have now passed on, and it is time embrace age appropriate physical intelligence.
