Ideas, Products & Services That Make
Our World A Greener Place To LiveAs I look around at the world beyond my immediate field of vision, something very strange occurs to me. Quite simply put, my vision has been confined, more or less, to the North American world I know, when it really should be much, much more wide ranging than that.

And when you finally get there you see the world outside your constricted field of vision is full to bursting with ideas and innovations that will take us smartly, and hopefully, more sanely into the future.

That is why I started this blog. I want to see beyond my normal field of vision and into the bigger world, where innovation is encouraged and not subjected to the constrictions of bullshit politics.

I have always believed that the smart progressive thinkers and the true visionaries of the world usually find a way round that, or align themselves with individuals, companies and countries that will not kick them around like political footballs, but instead, nurture and encourage them. Then watch them grow and change the world for the better.

REE An Israeli Company That’s Revolutionizing the E-Chassis.

For the Needy - Not the Greedy
Medical Equipment & SuppliesOK. So I’m just getting into the business of understanding electric vehicles, and this company has already taught me something fundamental, about the symbiotic relationship between the different module providers.

The company, REE specializes in the development and manufacture of the chassis or platform for electronic vehicles. And this is what their owner he taught me a few seconds after I opened their web site.

“The fundamental structure of the automotive industry is evolving into a mission specific vehicle with modularity being key structured in three layers: the platform providers, the service providers and the data providers. All working together to create new vehicles and new services tailored to customers’ needs in a fast changing world. REE is here to lead the industry and set the path for future platforms.“

Daniel Barel, Co-Founder and CEO, REE

So this is essentially an industry that is going to naturally have to team with other industries in order to actualize their product, and then the product itself will have to be customized to fit the specific needs of other companies who are actually making the vehicles that sit atop these platforms.

This sounds a lot like the parts industry in the conventional auto manufacturing industry, only on 21st century steroids. But it also sounds like the market for e-vEhicles is really picking up steam. All you have to do is turn on the World Series to see that everybody and their uncle is starting to get into the e-vehicle business.

NEOM: The City State Of The Future On The Red Sea

COPYRIGHT 2020 JIM MURRAYThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not have the most sterling reputation for being either innovative or progressive. This is mainly because they are basically a fundamental Islamic state, and that religion and the autocratic monarchy rules the country.

Add to that the multiple billions of dollars in oil wealth they are sitting on and you might start thinking of them as kind of greedy and domineering. And you probably also think of their leader Mohammad bin Salman as a real piece of work, and someone to be feared more than admired.

But, I have just come across something that, while it may not change your mind about the Saudis, it will certainly tweak your imagination and excite your business brain. especially if your business brain is geared towards renewable technologies and urban planning.

The project is called NEOM. And it is the brainchild of Mohammad bin Salman. And on its surface, it really does look like a sustainable and future-oriented way to spend a portion of that oil money.

I’m pretty sure that bin Salman has figured out that the oil market is a slowly but steadily declining one, as the world moves toward more sustainable systems. And, love him or hate him, I think he has come up with a way to both invest his billions wisely and take his country into the sustainable future.

Of course, with any monarch or politician, you always have to think twice about their real motive. But right now it seems rather pure.

NEOM, at least from the web site and brochure I downloaded, is going to be a massive development along a 450 kilometre stretch of the Red Sea. It will be a home for sustainable innovation, and a hub for sustainable businesses and industries to get their ideas and products, developed, actualized, built and distributed world wide.

Now I write brochures and web sites, (among other things), for a living and well, there’s probably bound to be more than a little hyperbole in the descriptions of what will be going on as NEOM.

The idea here is to create a kind of sustainable city state of the future, where all the industries involved will be working both independently and symbiotically to create sustainable technology and products that will move the world forward as it weans itself off dependence on fossil fuels and the environmental damage they cause.

Planning for this project started in 2017 and the first part of this new city by the sea will be complete by 2025 financed with Saudi investment of $500 billion.

If this works out, it could very well become the model for sustainability for the future, and position the Saudi Arabia as a major innovator in this area of urban planning and development.

For The Needy Not The Greedy: Renewed and Renewable Medical Equipment

94e26e31.pngOne of the things the world I entered into several months ago brought with it was the need for equipment that I never needed before. These included a special bed, an electric wheel chair and a new van to truck my sorry carcass to wherever it needed to go.

Now, a lot of the powered stuff is good to buy new, because well who knows who had it before you. But some of the other stuff, like walkers, a bedpan (which I no longer need), commodes, shower seats etc, can all be safely purchased second hand.

And that’s where I found out about For The Needy Not The Greedy. This is business, and I’m sure there are businesses like this almost everywhere, that takes donations of used equipment of all kinds, then repairs, and refurbishes and sterilizes it, then re-sells it at very affordable prices to people who need it.

So what is this company doing in a renewables blog site? Well,  the same thing as any business that is built around the idea of recycling materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill and add to the horrendous waste problem in the world today.

Needy Not Greedy gets most of their devices donated to by individuals and organizations that no longer need them, (which is something we have already done), then sells them back at very reasonable prices, mainly to people who can’t afford to buy these items from retailers.

In short, these people are doing both a great service to their community, and doing a great deal that contribute to the renewable culture on a very grass roots level, in mucb tbe same way as organizations like Goodwill and Value Village do.

That, to me at least, is every bit as important as the other larger companies our there.
