    About the Team:
    At Scotiabank, research plays a pivotal role in our Global Equity platform. We specialize in the Canadian market while also offering targeted international research that covers the United States and Latin America. Our top-tier teams generate value-added equity insights and thematic publications. Moreover, we continuously seek avenues to introduce new products to the market, delivering valuable research ideas and perspectives to clients. Our product lineup includes daily company-specific investment views, regular sector updates, comprehensive fundamental research reports, portfolio analysis and recommendations, and equity strategy commentary.

    Purpose:
    Equity Research Associates experience a stimulating and challenging work environment. As part of Canada's most globally oriented Bank, Scotiabank's Research Associates have the opportunity to contribute to a top-ranked Equity Research franchise. Working closely with a seasoned Research Analyst, Research Associates play a key role in developing financial forecasts and publishing research reports that empower our clients to make well-informed investment decisions.

    In a flat hierarchy and team-oriented setting, Research Associates have abundant prospects to build relationships with institutional and corporate clients, gain in-depth sector expertise, hone exceptional financial modeling and valuation skills, and grasp the nuances of the capital markets. This role is based in Toronto and is scheduled to start in September or October 2024.

    What You'll Do:

  • Perform thorough financial statement analysis and develop and maintain financial models
  • Conduct extensive industry analysis and research utilizing industry and financial resources
  • Gather, consolidate, and interpret company and industry data
  • Assist in crafting research publications, including morning commentary, company and industry reports, and theme-based research reports
  • Stay updated on market news and evaluate market data to assess short and long-term trends
  • Prepare engaging PowerPoint presentations for internal and external meetings
  • Communicate effectively and address inquiries from institutional investors
  • Foster and maintain connections with investor relations and management of companies under coverage group
  • Collaborate with sales, trading, and other firm areas within regulatory boundaries

    • What You'll Bring:

  • A business degree with a focus on accounting or finance
  • Preferably a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program would be advantageous
  • Prior experience in accounting, financial, analytical, equity research, corporate development, or M&A roles is preferred
  • Knowledge of or experience in the mining sector is a plus
  • Profound accounting, financial modeling, graphing, and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis and company valuation
  • Strong command of Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel & PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound business judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Capacity to handle multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high standard of work
  • A high level of energy and a strong desire for continuous learning

    • Work Arrangement:
    This role currently requires on-site presence, with an expectation of working at least 4 days a week in the office. Please note that this arrangement is subject to change based on business needs.
