Labourer - Water - Alliston, Canada - New Tecumseth
Description
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Operations - Water or Senior Operator - Water, this position will carry out general labourer duties and heavy equipment operation associated with Water operations.
Assists with the Towns watermain flushing, watermain break repairs and rehabilitation programs. Assists other departments such as Wastewater and Roads as required.Responsibilities:
Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, tandem trucks, vacuum trucks etc. within Water and Wastewater operations.
Perform operational assistance activities associated with watermain flushing.
Assist with watermain valve repairs, curb stop repairs, chambered valves using proper confined space entry techniques.
Repair/replace water service connections and sewer service connections as required.
Act as traffic controller during works on municipal roads.
Perform general maintenance when required such as painting, cleaning, restoration works on hydrants and small repairs.
Maintain property including grass cutting and snow removal as required.
Assist with the operational maintenance works such as hydrant maintenance etc.
Complete time sheets, circle checks, CVOR drivers log book where applicable, work orders, operational preventive maintenance activities, inspection reports and accident reports.
Responsible for proper usage and maintenance of heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, hand tools, power tools, mowers, vacuum truck etc.
Work in compliance with the OHSA, Corporate Health and Safety Policy and all other corporate policies, procedures and operational guidelines.
Qualifications:
Requires a secondary school diploma.
Must have a Class G driver's licence, and the ability to submit a clean driver's abstract upon hire. Class DZ preferred.
Must have valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C, or the ability to obtain within a month of hire.
Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
Requires 1-2 years of experience working with heavy equipment, preferably in a Public Works environment.
Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Interpersonal skills necessary in daily contacts with fellow workers, and supervisory staff.
Proficient with computers to enter electronic timesheets and navigate an electronic work order system (CityWorks).
Wage Rate:
$ $28.16, plus 4% vacation pay and OMERS pension plan (optional enrolment)
Hours: 40 hours per week; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Dates:
May - October 27, 2023
