    This critical role contributes to the achievement of Cenovus's production goals by handling a group of wells and assets focusing on the sandface to the wellhead, working with reservoir/development engineers, geosciences, operations engineering, and field operations to ensure well performance is optimized.

    This role is accountable for increasing well performance for all producing wells in Cenovus's Primary Conventional Heavy Oil portfolio and ensuring value accretive decisions are made with respect to each well on a continual basis.

    When overseeing new drills, this position will work in collaboration with Operations and other members of the asset team to optimize well delivery.

    Additionally, the successful candidate will optimize profitability of wells and core areas and leverage other subsurface teams in driving base production optimization activities.

    This role may also closely collaborate with EOR Production Engineering counterparts as a development pathway and to support absence coverage.

    This role will require a minimum of 2 field visits per year to support understanding of assets and building collaborative relationships with field personnel.

    Responsible to ensure that Primary Conventional Heavy Oil wells are optimized to increase profitability and run the long-term resource recovery for each core area, achieved through artificial lift design, recompletions, well optimization, operating strategies and workovers/cleanouts
    Work collaboratively with other subsurface teams, operations engineering and field operations to drive short and long term improvements from a subsurface focus
    Develops downhole optimization plans annually for each core area and desk as assigned, working with other subsurface teams and field operations to rank opportunities

    Leads monthly reviews of operating income by well, ensuring that realized netback price changes drive decision making with respect to marginal well startups or shut ins.

    Responsible for production reporting and near-term production forecasting/overwrites for assigned assets
    initiate and drive lookbacks on new well startups, working closely with subsurface teams to continually improve development through data acquisition, lab analysis and empirical evaluations
    Complete competitor analysis reviews annually across assigned assets in the Lloydminster Heavy Oil block with respect to new well completion design, new well workover frequency and other downhole production engineering related activities for all major peers
    Cross share with team members to further develop their strengths to drive team and organizational performance
    Preference for Conventional Heavy Oil or SAGD experience
    ~ Established skills in either Reservoir/Development engineering, Production Engineering or Facilities Engineering with depth of knowledge of multiple subsurface fields
    ~ Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values and in discussions with their current leader prior to determining next steps.
