Proudly constructing the Valley Line West LRT


The City of Edmonton selected Marigold Infrastructure Partners to design and build the 14-kilometre Valley Line West LRT project from downtown to Lewis Farms.

Construction has begun and will take five to six years to complete.

Marigold is a design-build joint venture agreement between Colas and Parsons.


Acting on behalf of the applicable Engineer(s) of Record, the Field Review Monitor (FRM) Civil is responsible for visiting the construction site where the professional work product occurs.

The FRM will document observations, interpretations, and advice and communicate them to the Technical Management Team, Construction Management Team, and Engineer(s) of Record as necessary.

The FRM will be present when the most critical components of the work are visible and available to be observed.

The main purpose of field reviews is to ensure the implementation or construction of the professional work product (PWP) in the field aligns with the original design's intended purpose, specifications, and requirements.


  • Field reviews also:
- verify the PWP is appropriate for the field condition
- confirm the original design and assumptions are valid as they relate to field implementation
- identify issues in the original design or specifications—or any other issues—due to site conditions that were not known while preparing the PWP
- create alignment between field-level decisions and engineering decisions
- ensure that if the implementation deviates from the intended design, the deviations are managed appropriately

  • Construction of roads, bridges, and other associated improvements
  • Sewer and waterworks removal and installation
  • Civil earthworks, drainage, utilities, pavement, duct banks, landscape/streetscape.
  • Installation of electrical equipment related to traffic signals, ramp metring and street lighting
  • Irrigation and planting, roadway and overhead sign removal and installation
  • Installation of temporary and permanent signs and delineation
  • Acts as the primary link between the Professional of Record (EoR or AoR) and activities in the field for the applicable scope of work.
  • Ensures that the appropriate staff are promptly notified when observations are made for work that does not conform with the intended purpose of the professional work product (PWP), and clearly communicates what should be done for the work to conform with the PWP.
  • Ensures that documents required to be collected in accordance with the approved Inspection and Testing Plans (ITPs) are being collected to provide sufficient evidence in support of Construction Certification.
  • Stays up to date on the status and content of Site Queries and Field Change Directives relevant to the scope maintains close communication with the PoR to ensure that construction progresses in accordance with the latest design information.
  • Stays up to date on the status and content of Construction Submittals relevant to the scope, including shop drawings, material/product data sheets, test reports, etc
  • Works closely with the Quality team and the PoR in the identification, review and disposition of nonconformances.
  • Works closely with the ESDC team in the tracking of unincorporated changes to relevant design packages and thresholds for resubmission of the Final Design to the City in accordance with the requirements.
  • Performs a detailed review of final redline drawings to ensure that asbuilt information is accurate and complete prior to assignment to the PoR for preparation of final record drawings.
  • Performs a detailed review of construction turnover packages to ensure that the documentation is accurate and complete prior to assignment to the EoR for final review of the package in support of Construction Certification.
  • Maintains records related to the project
  • Prepares daily reports and other documentation
  • Taking project photographs on a daily basis and recording to the appropriate location
  • Recognize potential conflicts, issues, and problems and reports them to the supervisor with the proposed solution.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with the position as may be required.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, an associate's degree in a technical discipline, or constructionrelated field.
  • Professional registration with APEGA or ability to register from another jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of related experience on field projects related to earthworks, drainage, wet utilities (sewer and waterworks,) landscaping, roadways, pavement. Experience in a major public infrastructure project preferred.
  • Knowledge of public works contracts, and previous experience with P3 projects is required.
