Manager, Health & Safety

Shared Services position working out of Edmonton, AB.

As the Manager, Health & Safety Shared Services, you will be accountable for providing feedback on, implement the strategic plan for and ensuring the effective provision of the following HSSE

Shared Services:
Cause-centered Investigation, Contractor Safety Management, Occupational Health & Hygiene, Injury Management and Psychological Safety. You will also manage a team of HSE professionals to deliver the HSSE Shared Services.

This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program

What you'd be responsible for

  • Collaborating with HSE team members in Corporate / Shared services to implement and review H&S management system standards, practices and processes within the context of the EPCOR HSE Strategic plan.
  • Providing appropriate plans to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Measuring and reporting on H&S performance metrics. Analyzing and identifying issues that will impact operational performance and champion continuous improvement efforts to enhance HSE processes/programs.
  • Taking a proactive role in communication and influence with regulatory agencies and OH&S related industry groups.
  • Implementing the causal investigation process and integrating it across all lines of business.
  • Managing the Causal Investigation Team to lead complex investigative efforts as needed, including discovery of causes, conducting learning sessions, developing corrective solutions and documenting change.
  • Creating and implementing strategies to improve contractor and subcontractor performance (e.g., prequalification program).
  • Managing the Contractor Management team to ensure the contractor safety management assurance processes demonstrates compliance, continual improvement, and effectiveness.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining proactive health and hygiene strategy, initiatives, and programs on topics including but not limited to lead, asbestos, silica, noise, indoor air quality, chemical, biological and radiological exposure, ergonomics, and health protection/surveillance activities.
  • Managing the Occupation Health team to ensure the continual improvement and effectiveness of the programs, including injury management and WCB claims, external injury/illness treatment processes/contracts, Job Demand Analysis, and preemployment and medical surveillance third party services.
  • Managing the Occupational Hygiene team to ensure effective management of workrelated health and hygiene risks through hazard identification, exposure evaluation and control strategies.
What's required to be successful

  • At least 810 years of relevant experience in a utility operations and/or occupational health & safety setting, senior field experience and/or construction projects across interprovincial boundaries.
  • At least 2 years progressive management experience leading diverse professional teams is an asset.
  • In good standing, designation as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH).
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and EPCOR standards/procedures.
  • Displays customer relationship skills, demonstrated responsiveness, analytical thinking, problem solving and planning skills.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills in advising and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of OHS legislation across Canada and the United States.
