Who We Are:
Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child & Family Services (KKCFSS) is a non-profit Delegated Aboriginal Agency governed by the Ktunaxa Nation Council Social Sector Board. KKCFSS is available to Ktunaxa citizens, First Nations, Métis and Inuit living on and off-reserve in the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory.
Bill C-92 - An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families will finally enshrine into law what Indigenous peoples across Canada have asked of governments for decades: to affirm and recognize their jurisdiction over child and family services in which the Ktunaxa Nation has decided to pursue.
The Opportunity:
The Bill C-92 Community Engagement Coordinator carry out communications, networking, and collaboration responsibilities for Ktunaxa Nation and carry out direction as provided by the Director of Child and Youth Services, Chief and Council, Community Elders and Community Members in relation to the development if the Ktunaxa Child Wellness family law. The Bill C-92 Community Engagement Coordinator will serve as an important bridge in the development of the Ktunaxa Child Wellness family law, principles, and practices. The Bill C-92 Community Engagement Coordinator will have the specific focus on community engagement and capacity development in child welfare. The Bill C-92 Community Engagement Coordinator will ensure that engagement functions and resources are effectively integrated, organized and leveraged to meet strategic and operational needs.
In the role as Bill C-92 Community Engagement Coordinator, you will:
· Support the development of the Ktunaxa Child Wellness Law community engagement strategy for the Ktunaxa Nation.
· Engage Indigenous people within the community members and within Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis
· Work closely with Elders, Leadership and Community Members.
What You Will Bring to the Role:
· A University or College degree with specialization in Child Welfare, Social Service, Community Development or a related field acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
· Relevant, recent and significant experience in the provision of coordination support to First Nation communities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
· Experience working with Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers.
· Experience working with First Nation people at a community and/or political level including in community engagement and community/organizational development.
· Knowledge of the British Columbia child welfare system and Delegated Aboriginal agency.
· Child welfare related issues in regards to First Nation communities.
· Ability to build and maintain respectful and effective relationships with diverse groups, organizations, and individuals to work collaboratively and cooperatively, including good conflict management, mediation skills and abilities.
· Ability to multi-task, set priorities effectively, time manage, and problem solve, including early identification of issues/problems that may arise, with an awareness of when to elevate issues as appropriate.
· Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check
· Flexible work schedule
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Ability to work independently and within a team
· A commitment to confidentiality
· A valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract - travel is a requirement of this position
