Job description and duties


The Director of Student Health Services (DSHS) will develop and implement the college's wellness strategic plan, plan and facilitate activities, workshops and events on various students' health and wellness topics, and provide recommendations for students.

These activities/workshops/events will be geared towards addressing both the physical and mental health needs of students and the college community.

The DSHS will also provide primary on campus care for students which includes the screening, assessment, and treatment of mental health conditions, prevention programming, health education, and health and safety risk management to the extent allowed within their profession.


The College has launched an ambitious strategic plan to become the college of choice for experiential, place-based learning by 2027.

To accomplish this, the Director must be able to live the College values of Adventure, Transformation, and Integrity and provide leadership in these areas as they relate to mental health and wellness.

The Director needs to be a strategic thinker with excellent communication and leadership skills.


Qualifications:


Education and experience:

  • A minimum of a completed Bachelor's degree in a relevant area of study.
  • A minimum of 710 years of experience in a relevant medical field
  • Experience in crisis intervention, counseling, prescriptions, and trauma informed practice at a postsecondary institution or a community health clinic is desirable
  • Ability with screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions to the extent allowed within their profession would be an asset

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of community resources related to mental health and addictions including cultural and traditionalbased support
  • Knowledge of best practices in prevention and intervention of mental health and addictions
  • Knowledge of the challenges, issues, and concerns experienced by both Indigenous and international postsecondary students of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Knowledge of approaches to wellness and health, including proactive mental health initiatives, preferably in the postsecondary sector
  • Knowledge of resiliencebased approaches to student wellness
  • Excellent knowledge of wellness issues associated with the experiences of persons who are marginalized based on gender, race/ethnicity, economic status, language, culture, age, disability, sexual orientation/identity, and/or gender identity
  • Knowledge of program development and evaluation methods related to mental health and wellness
  • Familiarity with MS suite of products
  • Interpersonal, Influential and Collaborative
  • Has an honest, open, consistent approach to working with others; possesses strong relationship and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and develop/maintain partnerships, obtaining stakeholder agreement.
