Job description and duties
This position is well suited for an individual with a passion for caring for people in need of health care who is interested in sharing their skills and experience to influence the next generation of nurses and health care assistants.
Duties:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Health Programs and working closely with the Chair/Coordinator of Health Programs, the Program Coordinator will ensure program evolution and play a collaborative and leading role in ensuring program quality, effectiveness, efficiency, accreditation, and student success.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:- Instructor hiring and scheduling
- Program and curriculum development
- Budget development and maintenance
- Educational liaison and articulation
- Student recruitment/retention and advocacy, community outreach, and program promotion
- Chairing meetings and participating in committee work
- Contributing to record keeping and timely report writing, including for accreditation bodies
- All other related duties of similar scope and complexity
As an instructor, responsibilities will encompass facilitating student academic achievement in the APN, PN, and HCA programs, including course preparation, teaching, assessing student work, and providing constructive feedback, guidance and support.
Qualifications:
- A current practicing license as a Practical Nurse (PN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- One of the following credentials in adult education from an accredited postsecondary institution (those in progress must have an identified completion date): a Master's in Adult Education, a Provincial Instructor's Diploma, or a Provincial Teaching Certificate
- Clinicalsite requirements such as CPRC, First Aid, uptodate vaccinations (including COVID vaccination), etc. or willingness to obtain the requirements (prior to clinical placements)
- Experienced in curriculum development and/or teaching in a variety of formats, including online & face to face
- Clear commitment to excellence in teaching with a focus on Indigenization and experiential placebased learning
- Demonstrated ability to supervise programming
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain students in a postsecondary setting
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
- Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with Indigenous communities, is an asset
- Strong organizational, teamwork, and problemsolving skills
