Position summary:


We are currently seeking a highly motivated registered dietitian to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.

***Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Dietitian assists the Program Manager in the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nutrition programming which is guided by the _Ontario Public Health Standards_ in accordance with the Sudbury & District Health Unit policy and under the Health Protection and Promotion Act. The Public Health Dietitian also provides consultation to staff and community partners regarding health promotion priorities, strategies, best practices, and policy development as it relates to healthy eating behaviours.


Responsibilities:


  • Applies various health promotion strategies required to improve the health of the population including awareness, education, community needs assessment, creating supportive environments, and analysis, development and implementation of healthy public policy.
  • Collaborates with peers from other agencies and organizations in the planning and delivery of programs and services.
  • Participates in applied nutrition research studies and special projects and uses relevant research in practice.
  • Develops, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates assigned projects in consultation with the manager and other team members as required.
  • Provides orientation, knowledge exchange, mentorship, guidance, and health promotion expertise to all staff, and students as required.
  • Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.
  • Acts as a preceptor for new staff, students, dietetic learners, and other professionals in training.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario is required.
  • Maintains and demonstrates professional competence as a Registered Dietitian and accepts responsibility for professional dietetics practice in accordance with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, other relevant legislation and health unit policy.
  • Minimum two years nutrition experience preferably in public health nutrition.
  • Experience with communitybased food literacy programming is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources.
  • Excellent facilitation skills: be able to engage community partners and obtain buyin.
  • Skills in analysis, organization, education, program planning and evaluation, interpersonal skills and leadership, working with multidisciplinary teams, multiple community agencies and partners.
  • Demonstrates computer skills with Microsoft Office and relevant databases.
  • Experience in media relations.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral team member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Satisfactory police reference check in accordance with agency policy
  • Maintains current Ontario Driver's license and has access to a reliable vehicle in order to fulfill position requirements.
  • Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required.
