Management Position - President & CEO's Office
(Temporary Full Time
- up to 18 months) Salary Range $67, $78,004.08

SYNERGY NORTH distributes electricity to approximately 50,000 residential customers and 6,000 commercial
customers located in Thunder Bay and Kenora, Ontario. It is our mission to provide outstanding energy services
in a safe, reliable, and trusted manner to our communities in order to power people's lives. To do this, we are
continuing to build on our strong team and are seeking a full-time, temporary Public Relations &
Communications professional in Thunder Bay, Ontario. SYNERGY NORTH invests in the safety and wellbeing
of our employees and provides a robust training program.

***: Under the general direction and guidance of the President & CEO, and in coordination with the Divisional Vice
Presidents, is responsible for developing and executing the utility's internal and external public relations and
communications strategy and event coordination.


  • Develop and lead the execution of the communications strategy, campaigns, media buys and related
projects, including all related budgets.


  • Lead public relations (PR) activities during power events, authoring press releases, speeches, key
messages, media statements, media kits, briefing materials, newsletters, and annual reports.


  • Provide leadership in the areas of digital and social media marketing, including management of the
website and overseeing of all social media activities and sites.


  • Measure and analyze the effectiveness of communications efforts using business analytics, pursue
continuous improvement and report results to key internal stakeholders.


  • Maintains and participates in the utility's emergency communications plan and provides media relations
expertise to utility staff.


  • Manages the production of printed and electronic advertising and communications materials, including the
  • Plans and organizes internal events, community events, exhibitions, and functions. Including any events as
directed by the Connections Committee.


  • Works with internal departments to develop and deliver the community engagement plan, customer service
marketing, internal and public safety strategy.


  • Facilitates donations and sponsorships as a liaison for SYNERGY NORTH's Connections Committee.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

A post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Public Relations, Media Communications, Marketing or
Journalism together with a minimum of two years' experience in media relations, marketing and/or public
communications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A demonstrated ability to manage
multiple projects at once, proactively manage public relations, experience planning and coordinating media
campaigns, public events, etc. Must have a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer
service and teamwork principles. Excellent organizational, problem solving, reporting writing and
communications skills. A working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, related software, and social
media is necessary.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Layout and graphic design experience. Knowledge of the electrical utility industry. Knowledge of Wordpress
and Adobe InDesign Suite is considered an asset.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and vehicle. Must be willing to work overtime including evenings
and weekends and/or remotely as required.
