Finance Officer, International
The Finance Officer plays an important role in overseeing International's financial resources to achieve department budget goals.

As part of the International Operations Team, this position supports financial administration and processing for day-to-day activities, as well as contributing to long term budget planning for all the teams that report to the Associate Vice President, International.


This role has responsibility for developing budget allocations under the guidance of International Leadership, monitoring revenue and expense accounts, reporting and reconciling monthly and year-end reports, forecasting year-end positions, transferring expenses, and analyzing return on investments of various initiatives.


The incumbent supports financial operations through process improvements, project implementations pertaining to financial and payment systems, and ensuring compliance with regulations and security policies.


Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Financial Administration

  • Monitor budgets and expense accounts across department areas
  • Reconcile subledgers to general ledger.
  • Process accounting transactions, adhering to policies, procedures, and prescribed periodend cutoffs.
  • Identifies, completes, and submits accruals and deferrals.
  • Supports Staffing Action Forms
  • Ensure that expenses on general ledger are coded with correct FOAPAL and correct those which are not.
  • Completes asset verification requests from Accounting.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, filing, and reporting of financial data.
  • Interpret and communicate applicable financial policies, procedures and guidelines to others.
  • Provide advice and support for problem resolution related to financial processes, procedures, payments, invoices, payroll, etc.
  • Coordinate and schedule data flow and financial information required for the preparation and development of detailed financial statements.

Forecasting, Modelling, and Analysing

  • Assist with forecasting and budget processes both annually and throughout the year
  • Develop and produce reports and analytical models to support the business.
  • Support the creation of business presentations
  • Contributing financials, such as forecasted expenses and related revenue, for annual investment proposals and external grant submissions.
  • Analysing return on investment for department expenses and initiatives.

Business Process Enhancements

  • Identifies and puts forth ideas, options, and alternatives for operational process efficiencies in a spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Analyse international business processes to ensure efficiency and proper controls for accurate financial reporting and the safeguarding of assets.
  • Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and hard copy.
  • Contributes to implementation of international payment platforms and portals.
Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • 2year diploma or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Office Administration
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education or a large organization
  • Experience performing financial analysis for an internationally active organization is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
