JOB SUMMARY


The Controller, Finance & Accountability, manages the Finance team and is responsible for financial management, annual budgets, reporting and analysis, annual audit, financial systems, policies and procedures and internal controls.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Controller reports to the CFO & VP, Operations, and manages the Finance team. Currently, the Controller has 3 direct reports which includes 2 Sr. Accountants and 1 Accountant.

This position works closely with other Senior Managers on key strategic initiatives of the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF). The Controller also works with bank staff, investment advisors, auditors, government representatives, external organizations, contractors and suppliers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supports the CFO & VP, Operations with:

  • strategic planning and implementation;
- implementing Finance operating plan;
- preparing quarterly reports for presentation to the Audit and Finance Committee and Board and attending Audit and Finance Committee meetings;
- identifying and managing business risks and insurance; and

  • RFP process for auditors.

Manages the:

  • Finance team, including hiring, training, mentoring, supporting professional development, managing performance and terminating staff;
- accounting and financial management functions, including safeguarding of significant financial assets and data;
- payroll, benefits, RRSP and related filings; and
- annual budgets, forecasts and projections.

Report Preparation
- responsible for accountability and reporting, including tracking and submission of deliverables;
- responsible for the annual report, maintaining historical financial information and ad hoc reporting and special projects as required;
- develops, standardizes and automates reporting; and
- prepares financial reports for the Executive Committee and Audit and Finance Committee.


Responsible for:
- working collaboratively with Resource Development team on preparing financial information for proposals, supporting negotiation of budgets and cash flow and ensuring compliance with contribution/ gift agreements;
- financial information for reports to funders and donors, compiling and submitting reports to government funders on a timely basis;
- compliance with Federal and Provincial legislation, Corporations Canada, CRA, Canadian GAAP and Imagine Canada requirements;
- financial recordkeeping in line with requirements in agreements and document management policies;
- timely submission of statutory filings, tax returns including T3010 charities information return, GST, PST, WCB, EHT T4A's and T4s and payment of amounts due;
- annual audit, including required schedules, supporting documents and preparation of financial statements;
- evaluation of financial systems and integration with other related systems, such as Salesforce, Ceridian, Jet Reports and grant management systems, and access security;
- accounting system upgrades;
- treasury function including cash management and forecasting;

  • UBC Donation analysis and reporting;
- revenue process ensuring funds are accounted for and disbursed according to designated intent and seeking Value in Kind and earned revenue opportunities throughout RHF;
- managing the general ledger to ensure that data is up-to-date, complete and accurate including review of cash on hand, use of funds and revenue recognition;
- monitoring temporary and long-term investments to manage cash flow and maximize potential interest revenue;
- reviewing financials from organizations that receive SCI related funding from the Foundation;
- liaising with external consultants when financial, tax, non
