Public Works - Operations Support

2 Positions Total - 1 Regular Full Time and 1 Contract Full Time 13 Month Duration

Location: 2 Copper Road, Brampton ON and daily travel to various Region of Peel Work Sites across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.

Hours of work: 35 Hours per week; Overtime is required and may be required to participate in on-call rotation

Who we are:

***The Operations Support Division provides a wide array of programs and services to 2 separate groups; Public Works clients and the community. It is the most diverse division in Peel, serving many different Public Works clients. Ops Support even services the community through various environmental education programs, call centres, and water billing.

Property Manager, Facility Services


What you will do in this role:

  • Expert strategic advice and consultation to Public Works leadership in program-specific areas of facility design, construction practices in a Public Works environment, and impact on operations
  • Act as key internal representative for Public Works programs during construction, renovation, preventative and ondemand maintenance
  • Liaise with Real Property Asset Management to forecast future capital project work, building access, coordination with program operations and client communications
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal supports on site logistics in occupied buildings during construction
  • Ensure health and safety of residents, staff, volunteers and visitors during renovations and constructions
  • Maintain expert knowledge and understanding of program standards and operational requirements
  • Prepare, review and/or edit purchasing specifications and provide procurement recommendations
  • Review and comment on feasibility studies, drawings and specifications
  • Prepare reports and updates outlining specific project activities with the Property Manager
  • Interpret and communicate functional program requirements to program staff to ensure that project plans are executed in a manner that supports program goals
  • Collaborate with Program Groups to deliver construction and renovation projects of Public Works facilities as assigned, from start to finish, including concept, design, tender, construction and commissioning
  • Coordinate construction work to ensure mínimal impact to client programs, engage stakeholders through all phases of the project; represent the Region for consultants and contractors on construction sites. Assist Project Managers on large complex projects as required
  • Work with internal clients to accurately define and plan the scope of work to be compiled, coordinate the gathering of program information for the preparation of drawings and specifications; obtain relevant information from other sections or departments or authorities having jurisdiction
  • Review specifications and drawings from architects and engineering firms for construction projects, coordinate input from client and other internal stakeholders
  • Report on progress and conduct onsite inspections to ensure compliance with construction contract documents
  • Prepare and submit site reports, project status updates, meeting minutes, project schedule and budget status as required, participate in project progress meetings

What the role requires:


  • Postsecondary education with a preferred emphasis on project management, combined with a minimum of three years' related work experience which includes contract administration, construction methods, inspections, reading and interpreting construction drawings
  • Well versed in mechanical, electrical, structural and civil trades terminology
  • Computer savvy and wellversed MS Office
  • Familiar with Budget development and procurement procedures
  • Valid 'G" Class Driver's License in good standing
  • Training required for Confined Space Entry, Fall Arrest and Working at Heights
  • Must be flexible to work variable hours, including weekends, overtime as required

  • Excellent customer service skills with proven abilities to problem solve and adapt on the fly
  • Polished communication skills both written and oral with ability to work with a wide variety of clients, employees, contractors and management
  • Desire to continuously improve and meet the needs of a diverse client group
  • Knowledge of Public Works program needs and requirements as they related to facilities
  • Knowledge of Commercial/Industrial installations and maintenance requirements, Mechanical systems, Fire and Life Safety and Electrical systems
  • Working understanding of relevant legislation Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and Occupational Health and Safety Act
