As part of your role, you may expect to be involved in:

  • Efficiently plan and independently execute field work using your existing knowledge of standard and accepted protocols in Ontario to generate high quality and well organized survey outputs.
  • Undertake field investigations, including, but not limited to:
  • Ecological Land Classification (ELC)
  • Wildlife surveys (amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles)
  • Targeted Species at Risk (SAR) habitat assessments, screening, and documentation
  • Wetland delineation
  • Undertake and analyze background information searches including literature reviews, database review, and agency consultation.
  • Prepare complete draft reports for review by senior staff, including writeup and analysis of natural heritage data prepared by others
  • Contribute to the preparation of project proposals and business development opportunities
  • Foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement and proactively committing to creating a positive work environment
  • Any other functions assigned as part of your employment
  • Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or similar field with a strong knowledge of terrestrial ecology and species in Ontario, usually gained through 2 or more years of independent field survey experience in a terrestrial discipline. Vegetation or ornithology specializations an asset
  • Research skills, data management, analysis and report writing skills.
  • Willingness to work in the field, including remote locations for days/weeks at a time and outside of standard office hours, as required.
  • A valid G license and a vehicle to travel to and from office/site (mileage to sites compensated), including valid and appropriate insurance on your vehicle.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public, clients, contractors, and coworkers
  • Certification in Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES), First Aid, and ATV and Pleasure Craft operators training considered an asset.
