- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead the development of best practices, policies, and procedures related to the EMS, Waste Management and ISO 14001 Audits for the Coal business
- Support the implementation and continual improvement of an effective and fit-for-business Environmental Management Systems required by ISO 14001 and HSEC standards for the Sustainable Development Team
- Responsible for the implementation, maintenance, quality control and alignment of Sustainable Developments HSEC platform (software that supports the management of obligations, incidents, and audit results)
- Lead the development of HSEC platform training for environmental employees
- Is informed of regulatory changes i.e. new regulations or permit conditions, and coordinates platform updates and leads the management of change to ensure implementation and compliance
- Lead the coordination of internal and external ISO 14001 audits for all assets. Manage the ISO contracts, provide progress and summary reports to leadership, and track conformance action plans
- Complete monthly and annual waste reporting using information from several waste contractors. Collaborate with the operations to complete analysis and QA/QC
- Support the assets in the execution of compliance obligations as per BC waste regulations and HSEC standards
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Environmental Science or in one of the Earth Sciences disciplines
- Will consider a diploma or education with relevant work experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in the field of environmental management
- Previous experience with permit implementation or the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems are assets
- Proficiency with EMS software or tracking systems
- ISO 14001 auditing experience would be an asset
- Strong understanding of BC waste regulations with the ability to learn site specific permit conditions related to waste
- Strong technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Performance, The Senior Lead, Environmental Management Systems (EMS) is a pivotal role within the Sustainable Development Team, focusing on the coal business. Tasked with the vital job of implementing and enhancing an EMS that complies with external obligations, ISO 14001 and Health Safety Environment Community (HSEC) standards. This leader will manage the HSEC platform, ensuring it supports environmental compliance and provides valuable data for trend analysis. Staying abreast of regulatory changes and leading ISO 14001 audits are also key responsibilities. The role also involves leading the development and implementation of waste management practices and standards for the coal business, ensuring compliance with British Columbia regulations, and analyzing cost efficiency. This role is integral to the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and continuous improvement in sustainable practices.
To be successful, we are looking for a strong leader with exceptional communication skills (in both formal and informal settings) organizational, interpersonal, analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving. The ability to prioritize multiple or complex competing tasks to see projects to completion, a high level of initiative and the ability to work with nominal supervision are vital in this role.

Teck employees receive a competitive compensation package that includes, but is not limited to, base salary plus the following benefits:
Salary Range: $115,000 - $142,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
