    Description:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Quality & Food Safety, the Supervisor, Quality & Food Safety monitors and controls the day-to-day functioning of the quality management and food safety systems.

This position also acts as a back-up for quality assurance activities of the Quality & Food Safety Department, including the supervision of the Quality Control Inspectors and the Quality Technicians.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Train and supervise employees ensuring expected high levels of quality are maintained
  • Supervisory responsibilities include:
- oversee activities of quality & food safety department and coordinators
- ensure staff receive appropriate training to perform their functions properly and safely
- monitor and evaluate performance
- monitor work and activities of coordinators
- in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Quality & Food Safety, develop, monitor, and achieve the goals and objectives for the department

  • Ensure outside services and testing are completed as per IMS and SQF requirements
  • Assist in evaluating supplier's and subcontractor's quality & food safety systems
  • Review department operations for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Handle and monitor required employee attendance and performance issues in a fair and consistent manner and maintain open communication with the Senior Manager, Quality & Food Safety and the Human Resources department
  • Assist and support corrective and preventive action programs (i.e., 8D Manager) related to quality and food safety audits, including internal audits, certification audits, and customer audits
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company. Interact with all levels of the operations in support of Winpak's TQI program.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 and SQF Code standards
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the quality assurance personnel in the department.
  • Act as a backup for the Quality Supervisor for vacations and absences
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • University/college Science degree or equivalent
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor training / Lead Auditor training preferred
  • Certified HACCP training
  • SQF Practitioner training
  • Certification to a structured problemsolving program (i.e., CME Lean Level 1) preferred
  • Graduate of Winpak's Emerging Leadership Development Program preferred
  • Experience supervising employees in a quality assurance environment
  • In lieu of previous experience, must be a graduate of Winpak's Emerging Leadership Development Program (ELDP) and have a minimum of 10 years' experience in quality assurance
  • Performing internal quality audits preferred
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001 quality management systems standard
  • Experience with developing and delivering training programs
  • Experience with the principles of document control
  • Familiar with process mapping and risk analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of SQF, IMS and GMP requirements
  • Familiarity with Winpak's quality assurance procedures, test methods, test equipment and calibration programs
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Highly motivated
  • Must possess analytical ability and demonstrated judgment and decisiveness
  • Must be able to perform under stressful situations
  • Good interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint and Access
  • Accurate report writing and effective communication skills
  • Able to work within tight deadlines and under mínimal supervision
  • Strong project management skills are required
  • Team attitude; eager to cooperate with others with exceptional interpersonal communication skills
