RCC is looking for a Manager, Sustainability to work out of our Toronto Head Office, reporting to the Vice President, Sustainability.


Position Summary

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review and monitor sustainabilityrelated federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, regulations, correspondence, and grants and incentives.
  • Assist in preparing industry advocacy, submissions and responses to government discussion papers, consultations & correspondence.
  • Keep track of emerging sustainability and ESG requirements such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting requirements.
  • Support members in understanding compliance requirements with relevant regulations.
  • Explain the compliance aspects, answer to and follow up on member requests regarding key issues such as legislation/regulations/bylaws on extended producer responsibility programs and requirements, singleuse plastics, food waste, chemicals management, pesticides, carbon footprint, water and energy.
  • Manage member committee meetings, communications and member contact information.
  • Support with research work regarding emerging issues and on outreach to stakeholders.
  • Research and monitor sustainabilityrelated industry developments, regulations and policy trends and assess applicability to the retail sector.
  • Develop relevant and timely member tools, resources and communications on issues of concern to the retail sector.
  • Support with the preparation of meeting summaries and presentations.
  • Ensure the online member compliance content (Sustainability Hub) is updated on an ongoing basis.
  • Support outreach to members and stakeholders.
  • Support with planning related to RCC's annual Retail Sustainability Conference.
  • Actively participate in relevant industry conferences, workshops, and seminars to expand knowledgebase and represent the organization.

Qualifications
Education

University degree in a program related to sustainability, public policy, or similar field.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role specializing in environmental/sustainability issues.
  • Strong writing, analytical and research skills with an ability to communicate technical aspects in plain language to stakeholders.
  • Selfmotivated and enjoy collaborating in a team environment.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Understanding of issues related to extended producer responsibility, climate change or environmental policies is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a bonus.
