The Community Standards and Neighbourhoods Branch enhances Edmonton's livability by improving public safety, maintaining community standards and building neighbourhood capacity and resilience.

The branch works directly with Edmontonians, communities, and businesses to ensure urban spaces are clean, safe, connected, and livable.

Working in a highly technical, operationally complex, and politically sensitive/confidential arena, the Branch Report and Correspondence Coordinator will:

  • Support Branch leadership with the setting of strategic direction of reports and interpret information from a variety of technical sources
  • Draft, revise and edit branch Council and Committee reports
  • Synthesize complex/technical material into plain language reports that are accessible to a wide variety of audiences
  • Provide input/feedback regarding reports and correspondence based on the Branch's strategic plan, Community Safety and Wellbeing Strategy, and ConnectEdmonton.
  • Ensure internal report deadlines are met
  • Prepare or review supporting report material for internal use that may be highly sensitive and confidential in nature
  • Regularly review internal processes to identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Draft, edit and revise publicfacing correspondence, such as responses to Councillors, industry and other levels of government, and ensure they are tracked and responded to on time
  • Identify opportunities for Administration to bring forward reports that support or advance strategic priorities of the branch
  • Align content and timing of reports to support an integrated narrative
  • Ensure quality of written branch materials are developed and presented in a way that builds trust with Council and are written in a single and consistent voice for the branch.

Qualifications:


  • A university degree in business administration, public administration, communications or related discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in communications, technical writing, municipal governance, community safety and enforcement, community development, or other related discipline
  • Ability to research, collate and synthesize complex, technically diverse information into written reports
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into plain language that is accessible (clear and easy to understand)
  • Experience writing and editing reports and correspondence that span a variety of technical and/or politically sensitive topics.
  • Strong relationship management skills to support and work with all levels of staff on report requests
  • Exceptional time management, project management and organizational skills; ability to set priorities, handle multiple assignments simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.
  • Political acumen to be able to respond to issues with appropriate tone and direction
  • Proficiency in POSSE software is an asset
  • Experience with briefings in a government environment is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with municipal operations and/or enforcement are an asset
