This IBEW Local 636 union position offers a starting hourly wage rate of $24.26
, with an average of 14-24 hours per week; primarily afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. _*Position to be evaluated*_


Position S
ummary:


Reporting to the Manager of Municipal Law Enforcement, the Bylaw Compliance Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws and providing public education and services in order to ensure the protection of residents, property, and employees.

This position will have a priority focus on enhancing the experience for residents and visitors by routine regulatory enforcement work and proactively addressing any safety concerns.

This position is responsible for investigating and processing alleged bylaw violations and taking remedial action as required to obtain compliance.

The Bylaw Compliance Officer will be expected to respond to enquiries and complaints and provide superior customer service as required.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Duties _include responding to complaints/inquiries with regard to enforcement and interpretation of Provincial legislation, Town bylaws, regulations, policies and procedures._
- _ Investigating bylaw complaints/infractions, assessing and documenting findings, making decisions and proceeding with enforcement or closure of files._
- _ Patrolling assigned areas on a regular basis on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to monitor compliance with Provincial legislation, and Town bylaws._
- _ Issuing offence/infraction/administrative penalty notices and summons as appropriate, preparing detailed and accurate reports of evidence and completing documentation/processes required for court._
- _ Providing coverage in all areas of enforcement including but not limited to Parking, Licensing, Noise, Parks and Trails, Property Standards and Animal Control._

  • Respond to enquiries from members of the public by providing information, assistance, and direction regarding bylaw matters.
- _ Maintain confidentiality of all actions, records and discussions_ undertaken during the administration and enforcement of all municipal bylaws

  • Promotes a high standard of customer service to the public as well as to all internal customers.
- _ Other duties as assigned._

  • Personally comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Successful completion of a Diploma in Law and Security, Police Foundations, or related field.
  • Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certificate (MLEO(c)) is an asset.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in regulatory law or enforcement.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and handle difficult customer situations.
  • Hold a valid Class 'G' driver's license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work independently, combined with welldeveloped organization and time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with tact, courtesy, discretion and diplomacy with all levels of staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of information.
  • Knowledge of parking bylaws.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including afternoon, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays in all weather conditions.

Effort/Physical Demands:


  • Physical demand requires standing, sitting, walking, and biking.
  • Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.
  • Mental demands related to working with agitated and/or aggressive people.

Working Conditions:


  • Average of 1424 hours per week. Shifts primarily include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Flexed hours to accommodate weekday coverage may be required.
  • Standard office working environment or within vehicle.
  • Exposure to undesirable conditions such as various temperatures, inclement weather including rain, snow, dirt, noise, vibration, or mechanical hazards.
  • Travel required within the Municipality.
