This position is a summer contract (May - End of August), 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Position S
ummary:


Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Summer Student will be responsible for assisting with inspections, maintenance, and repairs within the Water and Wastewater Department.

This role will support Technicians and Operators with tasks including collection of samples, laboratory works, and manual labour.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist with inspections, maintenance and repairs of all equipment, building, confined spaces and devices in the Water & Wastewater Department.
  • Perform manual labour related to supporting Maintenance Technicians and Operators.
  • Operate small tools and equipment related to grass cutting and general repairs.
  • Perform outside maintenance and duties.
  • Assist with the collection of samples for laboratory analysis and C of A compliance. (O.I.T.)
  • Assist with various laboratory works including all testing associated with the operation of the Water and Wastewater System. (O.I.T.)
  • Provide high standards of customer service.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed to the acceptable standards and time limits
  • Adherence to all Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. (W.H.M.I.S., Occupational Health and Safety)
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Currently between the ages of
  • Currently enrolled in a related field (such as Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, Water/Wastewater).
  • OIT Certification would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR & WHMIS is an asset.
  • Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and a reliable vehicle is required.

Effort/Physical Demands:


  • Physical demand requires standing, sitting, lifting, crouching and walking.
  • Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

Working Conditions:


  • Approved safety boots must be purchased by students and worn at all times.
  • Staff shirts will be supplied by the Town and must be worn at all times.
  • Work in extreme outside conditions (heat/cold).
