The Opportunity


Responsibilities include:


  • Develop the Accessibility Program for WAA and ensure sound execution in providing a barrierfree experience for passengers and airport users.
  • Ensure quality control of the Accessibility Quality Management System (A-QMS) which examines all aspects of the passenger journey, including, but not limited to, parkade/road systems, departures level, preboard screening, concessions, toileting facilities, commonuse resources, and Information Communication Technologies (ICT).
  • Work in conjunction with the Training Officer to deliver and maintain the accessibility training program to all occupational groups required.
  • Support organizational commitments to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) goals and provides training and support to both WAA and airportwide staff.
  • Oversee WAA's compliance to the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDRs).
  • Oversee the Accessibility Committee and utilize the committee to resolve at a local level any complaint or concern from passengers with disabilities.
  • Research and analyze industry practices and engage other airports to ensure consistency in accessibility delivery.
  • Schedule meetings and prepare various documents for meetings including producing documentation in alternative formats upon request, along with other duties as required.

Selection Criteria include:


  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Business, Social Sciences, or Humanities and/or related field.
  • Knowledgeable in theories of disability (e.g. biomedical vs. social theories of disability).
  • ASL/QSL or other certification through International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge related to barriers to equal access, which could be acquired from lived experience.
  • Sound understanding about the importance of process and procedures, as well as quality management systems.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including the public.
  • Specialized skills including regulatory understanding and interpretation,
  • Previous knowledge of airport operations and passenger flows is considered an asset,
  • Excellent technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Integrated Management Software, SharePoint, Adobe Suite, in addition to specific software related to assistive devices, as required.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self motivated to work independently and within a team in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to learn and look for continuous improvement in methods, software and processes.
