Job Summary:


This position is a permanent full-time position during school term time; primary responsibilities include maintaining the order and safe and proper functioning of the Upper School Arts Studio and supporting teachers during lessons and assisting students with their work.

This position will report to the Upper School CAT (Creative Arts Team) Coordinator but will also work closely with art and design teachers with project planning and preparation as needed.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Including but not limited to the following:

Studio Support:

  • Maintaining art studios, storerooms and supplies (cleaning, organisation, maintaining inventory, restocking, labelling, signouts)
  • Display work throughout the school and prepare for outside shows/drop off work/hang show/proofread and mount artist statements
  • Supporting classes with materials, set up and clean up, and monitoring student clean up for class transitions
  • Focus on maintaining a safe environment, and promoting safe use of the space and materials by students and staff
  • Supporting ceramic classes and LEAPs, and maintaining the ecofriendly process of running ceramic space by recycling clays and following the safe means of cleaning up
  • Order and pick up of supplies and materials as needed
  • Administrative duties including monitoring supply lists, field trips, cheque requisitions
  • Oversee maintenance of specialized equipment such as kiln, printing press, ceramic wheels, 3D print, laser cutter, hand tools etc
  • Book, organise and chaperone CAT Field Trips & support cocurricular clubs

Upper School Student Support:

  • Supporting teachers with providing 1:1 support to students, (which may include helping with art materials, art making processes, and providing advice/critique)
  • Assist with keeping digital portfolios up to date (helping students photograph work, Adobe Photoshop editing, measuring, proofread process portfolios)
  • Assist with digital upload for DP Visual Arts
  • Assist with logistics and setup of DP Visual Arts Exhibition

Qualifications:


  • 3 to 5 years experience in or studying art
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with adults and young people
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Strong studio art background (medium familiarity should include acrylic painting, drawing, ceramics, mixedmedia sculpture, digital photography, and printmaking)
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, Cricut, Lasercutter, 3D modelling is an asset
  • A passion for art and experience with your own artistic endeavour
  • Have a positive attitude, be good humoured and a good team player
  • Reasonable IT skills with attention to detail for administrative tasks
  • Ability to make local purchases (e.g. art supplies, etc.) by car to support Art and Design needs
  • Must be available to support students in the studio on occasional evenings and weekends (negotiated in advance with timeinlieu given)
