Job Description

Niagara University's Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start in the fall semester of 2024 in Vaughan, Ontario.

Job Requirements

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice. This degree should be completed by the time of appointment. We welcome candidates with various areas of scholarly pedagogical specialization. We are particularly interested in those candidates specializing and teaching in the areas of: research methods (including qualitative), statistics, victimization among indigenous populations, criminological theory, and Canadian law and legal policy. Candidates should demonstrate success or the potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Niagara University has a main campus in Lewiston, NY, U.S.A. and a site in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Applicants will be required to certify that they are authorized to work in Canada, and the successful candidate will be required to provide timely documentation of identity and employment eligibility. Job Duties

As a tenure-track faculty member, the hired candidate will be required to teach graduate courses (3 courses/sections per semester) in areas of criminology or criminal justice, publish impactful scholarly research and participate in service (committees, advisement, etc.) to the university, the profession, and the community. Attendance at periodic meetings (at Vaughan and Lewiston campuses) and holding regular office hours (in Vaughan) will also be expected. The courses assigned will likely be a mix of traditional (face-to-face), hybrid and online formats. However, there will be a requirement for some traditional face-to-face offerings every semester. Primary teaching responsibilities for this position will be in Vaughan, Ontario as the Department works to expand its graduate program in Criminal Justice Administration to the Vaughan campus. Graduate teaching will also be expected in Lewiston. Additionally, the faculty member will be tasked with assisting in the development of partnerships between the Department and local criminal justice, social, and victim service agencies within the area.
