About the Branch:


Since the Gold Rush of 1898, mining has featured prominently in building and defining the Yukon's economy, shaping its communities, and contributing to its economic development.

In the modern-day context, the Yukon Government controls and administers its natural resources, including its minerals.

The Mineral Resources branch administers the Quartz Mining Act, Placer Mining Act and regulations through the Mining Recorder offices in Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson, and Mayo.


The branch is responsible for the disposition and administration of mineral resources within the Yukon, providing education and outreach on the regulatory regime to support responsible mining land use and mineral planning and development to the mining industry, communities and governments.


About the Position:


Working as a Mining Recorder team member, the Mining Administration Officer is responsible for delivering first contact and front-line customer service in a regulatory environment.

The Mining Administration Officer ensures that all transactions in the acquiring and maintaining mineral tenure follow the relevant legislation. The role serves as an advisor to mining proponents, supporting their management of mineral claims.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary coursework in business administration or a related field;
  • Experience working in a frontline client service setting, providing information to and working collaboratively with the general public and diverse client groups;
  • Experience researching and drafting correspondence for review;
  • Experience working with land or resource management/legal documents would be an asset;

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment:
Obtain Notary Public appointment within six months of hire


Job Requirements:
Willingness to travel to Yukon communities is a requirement of this position
