- Produce complete, accurate and detailed steel bid package proposals.
- Analyze drawings and documentation to generate take off's, price buyouts, and complete bid summaries.
- Exercises due diligence in review of Request for Quotation documents.
- Read and understand construction drawings/specifications and perform take offs.
- Identify areas to lower project bid cost i.e. jigging, processing out of house, new equipment, etc.
- Assist the management team in bidding decisions.
- Implement project activities to achieve successful project delivery that is on time, on budget, while meeting or exceeding quality standards.
- Ensure the contract change management is maintained with other team members.
- Establish and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, field personnel, subcontractors/suppliers, architects, engineers, owners, general contractors and other business associates to help maintain the utmost quality and service we provide.
- Maintain high degree of communication and documentation.
- Other duties as required.
- To be accountable to yourself and your co-workers.
- 10 years of directly related experience;
- Experience within the Steel Industry required;
- Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology considered an asset;
- A team player who is self motivated and has strong attention to detail;
- Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills that are complemented by effective interpersonal, oral and written communication;
- Proficient in MS Office software;
- Adaptable and flexible with taking on new opportunities as assigned by Estimating Manager.
- Ability to demonstrate strong leadership, design, communication and technical knowledge of steel construction and fabrication.
- Ability to make sketches, drafts in order to demonstrate ideas to client, fabricators, or erectors.
- Ability to handle multiple bids while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment

KAY-SON Steel Fabricators Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, results-oriented Estimator. Reporting to the General Manager, the Estimator will provide key support for our management team and will provide overall administration for our office. Focused on our core values, the ideal candidate will strive towards improving processes while serving internal and external clients and vendors. The successful candidate must be team driven, yet be able to thrive working independently.
