Over the Winter term, you will support our Research Team and the Project Management Specialist in several inter-related projects and activities for 10-15 hours/week

(Note:

there is potential for full-time summer employment, pending funding.) You will be a key resource for the execution of desktop research and interviews, as well as dissemination of ideas to diverse audiences.


Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will support Innovation North's research projects and activities by:

  • Researching, analyzing and synthesizing information from an array of sources such as academic journals, business reports, news articles, and data sets
  • Observing and transcribing interviews with individual stakeholders to get a deeper understanding of the research problem and potential actions
  • Drafting and formatting project deliverables such as literature reviews, environmental scans, gap analyses, briefing notes, final reports, and presentations
  • Participating in internal research team meetings by presenting key research findings and potential recommendations for project clients
  • Ensuring research data (e.g. research documents, video recordings) is stored safe and securely in compliance with Research Ethics requirements
  • Collaborating with other research assistants and researchers to ensure tasks are completed on time
  • Providing administrative support such as booking meetings and interviews as needed

Qualifications
Education

  • Undergraduate or Master's degree (in progress or recently completed) in a relevant area of focus (Business Administration, Management, Social Sciences)
Experience

  • Previous work experience supporting research in a field related to sustainability, business, and/or innovation is preferred
  • Previous industry experience is preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Selflearner who is interested in sustainability and systems thinking, while constantly exposing themselves to new ideas
  • Detailoriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both academic and business audiences
  • Strong critical thinking and time management skills
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with researchers, practice partners and key stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team
  • Comfortable analyzing data such as reports, media articles, interview transcripts, and academic journals
  • Tech savvy familiar with Microsoft Office, project management software (e.g. Basecamp), collaboration tools (e.g. Miro), and data visualization techniques
