Purpose:
We are seeking to fill a full-time Actuarial Associate I role in our downtown Toronto location.

The Actuarial Associate role will focus on supporting the experience analysis team to ensure model assumptions align with actual emerging experience and aid in the development, testing and maintenance of a robust experience database.

This role will have the opportunity to work with various departments across the organization in all locations.


Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to the development of a central database in SAS for use in experience analysis studies by developing code to identify fields and perform calculations needed for experience analysis work, as well as performing user acceptance testing of outputs
  • Assist in ensuring thorough and proper documentation of database development processes is kept, including data mappings, transformations, data manipulations etc.
  • Assist in quarterly experience tracking to determine how actuals are tracking to expecteds over each quarterly period and justify/explain any adverse movements in A/Es.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual experience unlocking process, including gathering of data, updating excel model inputs, compiling output, and summarizing results in presentable format for senior and executive management.
  • Ensure proper controls are completed to maintain compliance with SOX.
  • Perform model output audit to ensure consistency with input assumptions.
  • Aid in the harmonization of experience analysis processes across the organization
Work with other team members and aid in ad hoc projects as needed


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science or related field
  • Completion of 1 or more actuarial exams and actively working towards ASA/FSA designation
  • 1year actuarial Coop or work experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with manipulation of large datasets is preferred as well as strong analytical and problemsolving skills and has the ability to think outside the box
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to work independently and effectively meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Experience with SAS and PowerQuery a bonus and with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel) required.
