Job Description:


The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits, performing various administrative and accounting tasks such as data management and keeping employee information that is relevant to payroll purposes up to date.

The Payroll & Benefit Specialist is a member of the Finance team and provides support with other tasks within the Payroll team as required.

Integrity, strong organization skills and superior attention to detail are crucial for this role as well as solid customer service and interpersonal skills given communication and client inquiry assistance is a key component within this position.


  • Manage payroll preparation/processing for Canadian & US entities (multi province and states) as well as commission and bonus payments
  • Administer Canadian and US Benefit programs (Health / RRSP / 401k) and ensure compliance
  • Assists with newhire benefits orientations
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility for new hires
  • Create payroll and benefit profiles on ADP and various benefit carrier portals for employees as required
  • Maintain payrollrelated accounts and reconciliation i.e., tax liabilities, vacation accrual, group benefits, Group RRSP, 401k
  • Maintain familiarity with Canadian and US payroll procedures to ensure efficient processing and compliance
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and other monthend accounting tasks
  • Assist in audits, accounting and special projects when required
  • Assist in the management of the payroll budget as directed
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by analyzing information and provide payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Ad hoc reporting as required
  • Protect employee confidence and payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Collaborate with the HR department and other departments to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date
  • Respond to employee and government agency inquiries regarding to payroll and tax compliance
  • Adhere to all policies and follow established procedures to ensure compliance
  • Participate in required meetings providing input and recommendations
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree or postsecondary diploma in business administration, finance, accounting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) designation or another formal payroll training would be an asset
  • Minimum three years Canadian and/or US payroll and benefits experience
  • Working experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Accounting experience is required
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office usage with strong Excel skills (e.g., V-Lookup, Pivot Tables, formulas)
  • Experience with data entry, confidential information, and accuracy
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll audits and payroll analysis
  • Experience with Canadian and/or US payroll and tax compliance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superb attention to detail

  • Ability to work with confidential information in a professional manner
