  • The Network Consultant supports the Network Sustainment team, and is focused on leading the new technology introduction, evolve network acceptance, participate and coordinate projects, and lead network upgrades. You will also champion operational readiness and process improvements working closely with the Solutions & Architecture teams, and the Network Operations Center (NOC). You will be an expert in the handson troubleshooting of network technologies with a strong knowledge in a variety of network vendors and their management systems. You will liaise with the Solutions & Architecture teams and network vendors for new technology deployments, helping to build, maintain, and operate a reliable network for the customers. You will also provide most of the handson support, configuration and installation for customer devices as required and may support adhoc network projects.

Responsibilities:


  • A Network Consultant will enhance/maintain business relationships with customers, typically by:
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, Wireless Devices)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations during offhours
  • Monitor performance and ensure system high availability and reliability remediating where necessary
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Optimize the network to meet performance, capacity, and security requirements.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting to resolve issues of moderate to high complexity
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Produce network implementation and migration plans. Implement network solutions in the enterprise environment.
  • Participate in the selection and implementation of security tools, policies, and procedures
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for incident/problem resolution
  • Maintain accurate documentation and designs of IT systems configurations, architecture, network and operating procedures
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning activities and development of disaster recovery plans
  • Collaborate with customers to advise and transform network and security infrastructure to enhance and optimize performance, stability, availability, and security
  • Provide recommendations, guidance and coaching to less senior team members
  • Establish standards, thresholds and rules/policies for monitoring and alerting, network availability and performance
  • Assist in capacity planning, networking devices procurement and support renewal
  • Participate in an oncall rotation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 58 years of experience supporting and monitoring network systems or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience of networking concepts, protocols, equipment, configuration and implementation (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, layer 47 firewalls, IPSec and SSL VPNs, routing, switching, load balancers, etc).
  • Understanding of general IT concepts and technologies including cloud computing, virtualization, server platforms, and security.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fastpaced team environment and ability to identify risks and address potential problems before they occur.
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry standard ITSM process frameworks (such as ITIL, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Problem Solving and Decision-Making methodologies, eg: Kepner-Tregoe.
  • Excellent written, verbal, as well as customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Two or more relevant industry certifications (eg: CCNA, JNCIA, Network+, etc.)
  • Experience using a variety of monitoring and ticket management tools and providing remote support
  • Ability to participate in a rotating oncall schedule
