What will you do in your role?
You will accurately and efficiently complete the following functions of the job:

Lead Hand

  • Be a role model and set a good example to fellow employees by arriving punctually, following Dieter's policies and procedures, and being accountable for your work
  • Communicate in a respectful and clear manner with your team
  • Delegate tasks, work, and other responsibilities as required
  • Must be willing to work extra hours as needed.

Brake Press Operation

  • Read specifications or follow verbal instructions
  • Lay out, set up, and operate one or brakes, punch presses, laser, computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment, and other hand tools to cut, bend, roll, ream, punch and drill, or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products.
  • Check product for correct shape, dimensions, and other specifications using a variety of measuring tools.
  • Accurately and honestly report all manufactured quantities for acceptable and scrap parts for each work order in the ERP system (PSI) in a timely manner. Reporting errors must be communicated to your supervisor.

Assist all Machine Operators

  • Find and pull parts to be worked on by Machine Operators
  • Setup tables of laid parts at the beginning of the shift to help maintain a continuous flow of work throughout the shift
  • Ensure brake presses, turret punches, and lasers are set up appropriately for long and short run orders.
  • Trouble shoot production machinery with an aim to keep the shift running by performing minor corrections or repairs.
  • Startup and setup additional machines if basic trouble shooting procedures fail.
  • Contact appropriate management personnel for machinery emergencies that would otherwise result in shift cancellation.

Training

  • Train new employees to operate Brake Presses, Turret Presses, and Laser equipment.
  • Supervise and be available to employees in training so that other Machine Operators are not pulled from their duties
  • Report concerns about employees in training to Production Supervisor
  • Perform all duties with careful consideration to safeguard your health and safety, and that of others.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Completion of Highschool and/or equivalent experience
  • Post-Secondary education in a CNC Set-Up or Maintenance, or equivalent mechanical knowledge
  • 3 or more years in a leadership/supervisory role
  • Valid Forklift Certification is an asset
  • Ability to read alpha and numeric work orders and part numbers
  • Ability to use measuring equipment such as Vernier's and angle protractors
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • 3 or more years' experience in a Brake Press role is an asset
  • 1 or more years' experience operating a Turret Punch and Laser is an asset
  • In addition to the above requirements, this role requires the ability to:
  • Communicate with all levels of the Company using excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Work independently without excessive supervision and review work for accuracy within specified time constraints.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with all external and internal customers, vendors, and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality, only sharing details with those who require the information to execute the duties of their position.
