Purpose:


The Graduate Program Assistant provides support to the graduate program within the Department of Computational Arts at the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD).

The incumbent contributes to the success of the program by providing courteous, efficient, and professional service to current and prospective students, faculty, Graduate Program Director(s) and staff.

The role responds to inquiries and performs work by following established academic regulations, policies, and procedures.


Education:


Community College Diploma in Office Administration or Business Office Administration or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks.

This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.


Experience:


Two (2) years of recent and related experience (as defined within the last 5 years) in an academic setting including supporting academic and administrative processes and activities.

Demonstrated experience in office procedures, prioritizing competing demands, preparing/processing documents, assembling information, and maintaining files. Some knowledge of graduate program degree requirements and processes, including funding calculation and scholarship coordination support is desired.

Demonstrated Skills including:
Effective communication skills to elicit, interpret and summarize information.
Effective interpersonal skills. exercising tact, courtesy and discretion when dealing with others.
Excellent organizational and attention to detail including ability to set priorities, proactively pursue completion of tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently, multitask while setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
Exercising good judgment, initiative and problem solving.
Working effectively as a member of a team to achieve and support unit/organizational goals and objectives.
Making decisions with others and supporting outcomes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to take accurate minutes.


Demonstrated Technical Skills including:
Intermediate word-processing (i.e., MS Word).
Working knowledge of an on-line records system, including data entry and retrieval (i.e., Student Information System).
Intermediate computerized spreadsheet skills (i.e., MS Excel).
Web content management software (e.g., Wordpress).


Additional Notes:


Hours of work:
Part-time, 21 hour/week: Tuesday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
