LCS Summer Academy is currently recruiting for Junior Day Camp Counsellors to join our team.

Organizational Overview:

Founded in 1879, Lakefield College School is a leader among Canada's independent boarding and day schools and prides itself on its reputation for providing a strong, caring community, a well-rounded program, and a transformational student experience on one of the largest waterfront campuses in the country.

With 144 years of outdoor education experience, LCS Summer Academy provides fun and challenging programs for campers ages 6 to 18.

Each program is full of opportunities to learn in and through the outdoors on our 315-acre waterfront campus.

We believe strongly in nurturing the development of the whole person by focusing on community-minded leadership, character education, and environmental sustainability.


Position Overview:


The first week of the program will be spent focusing on initial training and overview of responsibilities, and welcoming our first group of campers to the LCS Summer Academy.

Junior Day Counsellors participate in leadership training opportunities and gain valuable facilitation skills for activities and counselling of campers.

During the following weeks, Junior Day Camp Counsellors will have the opportunity to be partnered with a Counsellor/Coordinator at their daily placements to help run programming for campers (generally focused on the campers aged 6-14, and in particular the 6-10 age group).


Junior Day Camp Counsellors will be required to support the following:

  • Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of students and fellow staff
  • Creating a comfortable, respectful, and fun camp community
  • Participate fully in the daily delivery of programs and activities
  • Assisting in delivery of imaginative and ageappropriate programs for students enrolled in the LCS Summer Academy and Programs
  • Providing Counsellors and Coordinators with daily updates on student wellbeing and behaviour
  • Follow all policies and procedures at LCS
  • Working with the Director, LCS Summer Academy, Counsellors, and Coordinators to ensure prompt attention to any medical/health concerns
  • Some supervision of dining hall during meals, in cooperation with Director, LCS Summer Academy, Coordinators, Counsellors, and other Junior Counsellors
  • Daily attendance and meal checks

Education and Experience:


  • Entering Grades 11 or 12 in the 2023/2024 school year (and 16+ years of age)
  • Completion of Leaders in

Training Program:
Designing Your Future LCS program or equivalent experience*- Eligible to work in Canada

  • Experience with ELL considered an asset
  • Current certifications/qualifications in the following:
  • Bronze Medallion (minimum certification); Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard (NL) an asset
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association (ORCKA) levels and/or certifications an asset
  • Ropes course and climbing wall experiences and/or certifications an asset
  • If an applicant does not already have these certifications, there are opportunities to complete both the Leaders in
