    Description

    Course Overview:

    • Description: This position entails communication consulting and/or instruction for engineering design and communication courses.
    • Praxis I focuses on theory and practice through interactive lectures, Design Studio activities, and small-team projects to enhance critical thinking and communication skills.
    • Praxis II builds upon Praxis I, challenging students to apply and refine their skills through self-defined design projects related to the City of Toronto.

    Position Details:

    • Number of Positions: One (1) position
    • Estimated Enrolment: 300 students
    • Class Schedule:
      - Fall: Lectures on M 13–14, T 9–10, F 11–12; Studios on T 10–12, T 13–15, R 14–16, R 16–18; Team meetings on M 14–15, T 12–13.
      - Spring: Lectures on M 15–16, T 10–11, F 11–12; Studios on T 13–15, W 12–14, W 16–18, R 12–14; Team meetings on M 16–17, T 15–16.
    • Appointment Dates: September 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025
    • Hours: Up to 460 hours
    • Salary: Various rates as per Collective Agreement

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum: Master's degree in Applied Linguistics or Second Language Education, 10+ years of experience in curriculum development, and strong communication skills.
    • Preferred: PhD in relevant discipline, familiarity with engineering communication practices, and previous teaching experience.

    Duties: Oversight of Professional Language Development support in ESC101 and ESC102 including orientation, student support, teamwork assistance, and assignment monitoring.

    • Attendance at instructor orientation
    • Monitoring and support for students
    • Designing support mechanisms
    • Assignment monitoring and grading assistance
    • Evaluation at design Showcase
    • Adaptability to online instruction
