As a valued member of the HR team, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible to process US semi-monthly payroll, including tax set up by state or province and process payroll for Smile DH.

This position will be a 50% payroll process and the rest will be related to benefits administration, including monitoring of corporate policies and procedures that adhere to legal requirements.

Responsibilities:


  • Process full payroll support throughout the employee lifecycle from onboarding, employee changes and offboarding for employees in Canada and the US.
  • Process semimonthly payroll for employees in multiple states of US and Canada using Dayforce.
  • Support as Payroll back up for semimonthly payroll as required.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements.
  • Prepare yearend reporting including issuing of W
  • Reconcile payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions.
  • Manage employment verifications, unemployment inquiries, and garnishment requests.
  • Work with payroll service providers and State agencies to reconcile tax inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Monitor state registration and payroll tax reporting requirements with Finance.
  • Complete monthly benefit audits and resolve discrepancies timely.
  • Maintain benefits records, initiate and execute new hire and life event benefits enrollments.
  • Reconcile vendor invoices.
  • Assist with the company's annual open enrollment process.
  • Prepare regular payroll reports for review.
  • Maintain confidential payroll records.
  • Ensure compliance with government laws and regulations which govern payroll practices.
  • Subject matter expert on all payroll and health benefits plans related matters.
  • Develops creative and alternative solutions with a focus on the employee experience.
  • Maintains proper data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and precision with follow through in a timely manner.
  • Other duties assigned to assist the overall Human Resources department.

Requirements:


  • 3+ years of experience supporting US and Canada payroll.
  • Experience and proficiency with Ceridian Dayforce or other payroll system.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of US payroll tax requirements 401K and other US benefits is an asset.
  • Well organized, selfmotivated and able to work independently.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to details.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Intermediate knowledge in Excel.
  • Able to maintain confidential information; deal with people sensitively and professionally at all times.
