Description
Introduction
Northern Airports and Marine Operations acts as the lifeline for remote communities in Northern Manitoba, allowing the transportation of medical patients and essential supplies such as food and medication. Marine Operations provides ferry services to the communities through a highly skilled workforce that adheres to regulatory standards to ensure safety and uniformity with provincial, federal, and international regulations.Conditions of Employment:
As a heavy-duty apprentice or journeyman working in the Marine Division of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, we are responsible for the safe maintenance of the province's fleet of passenger ferries. There are four ferries that are located in remote northern areas of the province, and as such, work must be performed at these locations, and travel, accommodations, and board are provided and required. Trips to these locations are most often done M-F, with the occasional weekend worked. Days can often consist of 12–14-hour workdays.
The Marine Shop location is located in Selkirk and serves as a home base and repair and prep facility when not at remote sites.
