Job Summary:

This role is accountable for assisting Brokers with complex inquiries and accommodation requests pertaining to underwriting, billing, products, and pricing.

The Insurance Advisor, Underwriting & Billing will be required to review and approve underwriting and billing exceptions in accordance with rules and authority levels.

They will also handle referrals from other staff that fall outside of their own authority.

They will be required to effectively communicate rationale relative to potential changes to risk appetite, products, and guidelines, as well as premium dislocation.

Decisions on accommodation outcomes will also need to be communicated to brokers, ensuring they understand the rationale behind our decisions.

Insurance Advisors will also be required to process more complex transactions not enabled by broker self-service functionality, including but not limited to new business, policy changes, cancellations etc., in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority.

They will be required to review and assess risk for acceptability within intermediate/advanced scenarios. They will ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and authority on all inquiries and transactions.

Upon acknowledgement that a scenario requires further escalation, they would proceed with referral to the appropriate team/authority levels, ensuring they have gathered all pertinent information, and have supported their referral with a well-documented business case, including their recommendation and proposed terms.


Key Accountabilities:
**Broker Inquiries

  • 70%**Handle complex inquiries and accommodation requests pertaining to underwriting, billing, products and pricing. Review and approve underwriting and billing exceptions in accordance with rules and authority levels. Handle referrals from other staff that fall outside of their authority.

Transaction Processing - 30%


Process more complex transactions not enabled by broker self-service functionality, including but not limited to new business, policy changes, cancellations etc., in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority.

Work entails more complex, differing situations requiring search for solutions within selection of known things. Solves most problems by referring to their own technical knowledge and interpretation of existing information.


Skills:


  • 2+ years of insurance / underwriting experience (required)
  • Univ. Degree /College diploma or equivalent experience
  • CIP / working towards designation preferred
  • Knowledge of Economical's PI offerings and Guidewire an asset
  • Key note: This role will require an intermediate level of experience and expertise in underwriting and billing._
