The Associate Vice President of Creditor Claims and Underwriting champions the performance of the claims and underwriting departments for all creditor products and distribution channels.

The AVP, Creditor Claims and Underwriting will guide the way for the strategic execution of new and enhanced plans to elevate the harmonious client-centric operational excellence of Cumis's claims and underwriting teams.

Actively partnering with Creditor leadership team members to develop action plans, priorities, and key metrics, and collaborating with creditor product teams for product enhancements and compliance.


How you will create impact:


  • Establishing strategic plans and overseeing the implementation of unit goals, priorities, and objectives that drives operational effectiveness and supports organizational growth and profitability.
  • Delivering tactical direction in the maintenance and evolution of processes and services to mitigate fraud and possible risks while ensuring frameworks are in place to identify, evaluate, and implement changes to our claim adjudication and underwriting processes.
  • Providing steering leadership on industry practices, trends, and innovation regarding adjudication and underwriting.
  • Holding ownership and oversight of claims analysis, underwriting guidelines, compliance, and claims and underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Operating externally by actively participating in industry organizations and client events, staying current on legislative changes, and representing the organization as needed for litigation and compliance issues.
  • Delivering oversight to operational reporting needs and reporting development, and presenting datadriven insights for management review and decisionmaking.
  • Leading and engaging your team to deliver strategic objectives through effective coaching and mentoring, identifying, and developing emerging talent, and fostering an innovative, collaborative, and agile culture.

To join our team:


  • You have 7 years of progressive experience leading and inspiring teams and are proficient in contributing to and executing operational strategic initiatives in teams that drive efficiencies, innovation, and clientcentric.
  • You have a degree in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Actuarial, Risk Management, or similarly related.
  • Having an Associated Life Health Claims (ALHC) and/or (FALU) designation is an asset.
  • You have significant creditor or general insurance knowledge.
  • Having knowledge of creditor insurance and practices including underwriting/risk management, claims adjudication, product design and pricing is an asset.
  • You have strong financial and business acumen.
