SCOPE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Manager, Integrated Pest Management, the Integrated Pest Management Worker supports integrated pest management activities in OCH communities through inspections, tenant interactions, stakeholder engagement and awareness, waste management, repair and maintenance, and appropriate pest control techniques.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with internal and external stakeholders in the prevention and resolution of pest issues
  • Inspects assigned buildings and units, identifying specific problem areas, the degree of infestation, readiness risk, required maintenance, and sanitation factors
  • Promotes awareness and informs tenants and staff on IPM principles and practices leading to improved prevention and treatment of pests
  • Supports effective pest management through waste management, repair and maintenance, and appropriate pest control techniques, in accordance with statutory requirements and established policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards
  • Assists in targeted unit preparation prior to treatment
  • Provides access to units in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Identifies and escalates issues regarding worked performed by contractors
  • Completes work orders and ensures the accurate and timely completion of all paper and electronic documentation
  • Ensures the appropriate and safe disposal of all materials and waste in accordance with safety regulations and established guidelines
  • Escalates identified maintenance, safety, and security issues
  • Suggests improvements and efficiencies in IPM operations and processes
  • Promptly reports all workplace accidents or incidents and unusual or dangerous work conditions
  • Represents OCH in a professional manner and treats all work related contacts with respect and courtesy
  • Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery
  • Works in alignment with OCH values, interests and strategic objectives
  • Performs work in compliance with statutory requirements, including all applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Pesticide Act, the Residential Tenancies Act, Fire Code, and OCH policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a minimum Grade 10 or equivalent plus relevant training in pest management
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in pest management and general building maintenance in a residential context
  • Ability to obtain an Ontario Structural Exterminators licence is required

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of managing pest problems through an integrated pest management approach
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment related to pest management
  • Knowledge of factors impacting on tenant populations in social housing and their relation to pest management
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Knowledge of other applicable legislation, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Residential Tenancies Act, the Pesticide Act, Fire Code, and related regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills allowing for appropriate professional relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues
  • Ability and skills to perform repairs and maintenance tasks related to the prevention and remediation of
pest issues

  • Demonstrated ability to operate tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to follow protocols, identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Ability to use information technology such as mobile devices and computer systems in the performance of work
  • Understanding of the values, vision, and mission of Ottawa Community Housing and a commitment to support those objectives

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

  • Oral fluency and reading and writing abilities in English are required
  • Oral fluency and reading and writing abilities in French are preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  • Must possess a valid Class "G" drivers licence or equivalent
  • Satisfactory Driver's Abstract
