In the scenic outdoors of Minden Ontario, known for its calm and tranquil beaches, trails and parks, is our Kinark Outdoor Centre.

As an Outdoor Program Facilitator, you can make a meaningful contribution to the healthy future of Ontario's youth who attend the Kinark Outdoor Centre.


The Kinark Outdoor Centre (KOC) programs and offerings facilitate a range of outdoor activities and therapeutic recreation that are educational and experiential for the children, youth, and their families.

Some programs are customized specifically to meet the needs of our diverse client population including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.

Other programs include elementary and secondary schools, faith-based organizations, Cadets, and other groups that have complex needs.


Job Summary


As an Outdoor Program Facilitator, you will be leading initiatives while making the experience exciting and engaging for our Kinark children and their families.

Reporting to a Program Supervisor, you will be responsible for facilitating safe and fun programs and activities while interacting with children, family members and group leaders.

While in the Outdoor Program Facilitator position, you will be using your existing leadership skills, developing new organizational skills, all in a positive, fun environment.

You will be a part of a team where you are making a direct and significant impact in the lives of children and their families.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Interact with children and youth while fostering interaction among them.
  • Maintain a fun, positive, and safe environment for all clients visiting the KOC.
  • Facilitate outdoor recreation activities including, but not limited to, rock climbing, high ropes, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding in the Spring and Summer, while leading snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tubing, and broomball in the winter season.
  • Facilitate group development through games, leadership activities and initiatives.
  • Adapt programs as necessary to suit the wants and needs of all participants.
  • Assist in preparation of the facility prior to group arrival.
  • Keep track of, and perform, required maintenance of equipment.
  • Understand and be confident to implement ALL emergency procedures.
  • Know, and follow all safety guidelines and at the same time, be an ambassador of the KOC's Health and Safety culture.
  • Attend and complete all trainings within the time provided and integrate into your daytoday work.

Qualifications and Expectations:


  • Experience working in a childcare setting (such as camps, livein treatment homes, school system) with children and/or youth of varying age and needs.**:
  • Be open to feedback (including constructive criticism), showing respect while recognizing others' roles and contributions.**:
  • Work experience in outdoor recreation, environmental programming, and managing large groups.
  • Have a current Standard First Aid and CPR C (required). *Wilderness First Aid will be accepted.
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) or willingness to obtain before start date.
  • A current National Lifeguard certification, or willingness to obtain before start date. The Kinark Outdoor Centre will reimburse staff for the cost of obtaining or recertifying.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, timemanagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in outdoor recreation activities including, but not limited to, rock climbing, high ropes, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding in the Spring and Summer, while leading snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tubing, and broomball in the Winter season.
  • Must have the physical ability to support children when needed for safety. Training will be provided (eg. Physical restraint techniques).
  • A valid Police Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening), Pre-Employment Medical and proof of Covid19 vaccine is required.
