TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for a Environmental Manager to join their team of rail professionals. Reporting to the HSQE Manager the Environmental Manager will manage the Environment and Quality components in order to ensure site deliveries at the right quality level by cascading & implementing the Site objectives within the Quality and Safety organization and implements Quality and Safety policy & tools at Site level

Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the valley line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to anywhere the LRT stops.


A typical day for the Environmental Manager

  • Oversee and direct all aspects of the Project's environmental program.
  • Ensure that the Project and all Project Personnel comply with Project Environmental Obligations.
  • Develop and implement all plans and procedures required to ensure compliance and to monitor and verify compliance with the Project Environmental Obligations.
  • Oversee the environmental auditing program as required under Schedule 9 and Schedule 10 of the PA.
  • Ensure that all reports required under the PA with respect to compliance with Project Environmental Obligations are prepared and delivered as required.
  • Stop any or all of the Project Work if any environmental monitoring, inspection or audit indicates that the Project Work does not comply with any Project environmental obligations.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of qualified environmental specialists sufficient to fulfil the duties and obligations of the PA and the requirements of this EMS.
  • Develop and regularly update an effective ISO 14001 compliant Operational stage EMS.
  • Update and/or maintain an effective Environmental Quality Management Plan that meets the applicable requirements of Schedule 9 [Quality Management] and 10 Schedule 10 [Environmental Performance Requirements] of the PA.
  • Be present at all work sites a sufficient amount of time to demonstrate a working knowledge of the onsite work, the status of Project work and all environmental issues and conditions associated with the Project, the Project work, the Infrastructure and the Lands.
  • Investigate root cause of environmental nonconformances, observations and incidents in coordination with the HSQE Manager.
  • In consultation with the Commercial Manager, establish environmental requirements for procurement processes and assist with procurement of environmental specialists.
  • Coordinate Management Review Meetings.
  • Coordinate internal and external EMS audits, report findings to the City as required and facilitate implementation of corrective and preventive actions for nonconformances (NCRs).
  • Assist with training, mentoring, inspections, incident investigations and NCRs.

What you will bring to the team

  • Bachelor degree or a higher degree in an appropriate field, such as biology, ecology, environmental engineering or natural resources management;
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management and environmental management, including two years of experience with major projects in urban settings;
  • Experience acting as an environmental manager or equivalent position on at least one infrastructure project in North America involving a publicprivate partnership structure; and
  • Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems and environmental construction operations plans prepared under the ECO Plan Framework or equivalent tool.
