Cruise Operations Assistant-(Termed position-12months)
This position reports to the Manager, Marine Policy & Operations.


The Cruise Operations Assistant assists the Manager, Marine Policy & Operations with all aspects of cruise operations, cruise business developments, and security.

This position requires acting as MFSO for Cruise Security.

Must have experience building and maintaining relationships with industry stakeholders and regulators. Must have excellent computer experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

The position requires a keen willingness to learn all aspects of cruise operations, general port operations, and security.


Must be proficient in reading and understanding vessels and building schematics and drawings to effectively plan vessel placement and associated operations.


Should have a general working knowledge of basic seamanship practices, terminology and common equipment utilized to secure vessels at marine facilities.

Must be able to obtain a restricted operator's radio license.


Must be able to obtain a Marine Transportation Security Clearance and successfully complete a Marine Facility Security Officer training program to meet all specified MFSO qualifications and skills as required by the MTSA/MTSR.


Accountabilities

Operations
Performs Standard Operating Procedures at Cruise facilities to ensure efficient and safe vessel arrival and departure.

Responsible for ensuring Cruise operations are conducted in accordance with Transport Canada regulations.

Liaises with ground transportation providers and police to control access;; manages/coordinates exterior areas used by transportation providers cruise related.

Liaises with ship's personnel to address any concerns for referral to the Manager, Marine Policy & Operations.

Helps assist in implementing practices and procedures relating to shore operations.

Function as the Duty Operations Officer on weekends and holidays as required.


Planning and Administration
Prepares activity, project and incident reports (i.e. Berth Utilization, Gangway and Cruise maintenance, equipment reports, Cruise Operations and incident reports and near miss reports, etc.).

Assists the Cruise Operations Coordinator with the Cruise Vessel Scheduling (including future cruise schedules and docking assignment).

Assists with producing new vessel diagrams and revises returning vessels as required.

Assists in providing budgetary information related to cruise operations as required.

For example, reviews cruise security invoices and reconcile against forecast security and most up to date cruise schedule for accuracy, budgeting and scheduling service providers such as traffic control, shuttle buses and sanitary facility rentals.


Emergency/Security
Functions as the Duty Operations Officer as required.

Functions as Cruise Vessel Facility - Marine Facility Security Officer.


Assists with developing and implementing protocols to ensure the facility complies with the Marine Transportation Security Act and corresponding Regulations.

Assists with supervising cruise security detail staff (including budget planning and training).

Member of incident management team, maintain incident command qualifications as determined by the Authority.


Other
Takes minutes and schedules meetings for the CORE team.
