    Description

    Hepburn Engineering is a successful medium-sized Toronto based company that designs, builds and commissions heavy lifting equipment including mine hoists and replenishment-at-sea transfer systems for customers around the world.

    Hepburn Engineering integrates custom-designed mechanical equipment with sophisticated controls, hydraulics, and electrical drives up to 7,500kW. Electrical and mechanical engineers work as an integrated team. Information about Hepburn Engineering can be found on the company website
    scope definition, bidding, design, manufacture, assembly, installation-commissioning, field service plus long-term operational support.

    The in-house design includes detailed solid modeling design, hydraulic circuit design, gear design, and FEM stress analysis, as well as the selection of purchased specialty components such as bearings, couplings, and brakes.

    Provide leadership in progressing the detailed design solution including 3D modelling, hydraulic systems, specification for gearboxes, stress analysis, FEA, detailed BOMs & specifications for mechanical equipment build.

    Support start-up and commissioning of equipment, including sign-off on all safety critical functions.

    Provide leadership in detailed review of customer RFQ packages and supports finding a robust technical solution with an itemized BOM and estimated hours to complete the work.

    Take a leadership role in presenting the proposed solution to the customer in a Technical Bid review.
    Support training of less experienced engineers.
    Work in a project environment in close association with electrical design engineers to produce integrated custom-built equipment.
    Produce equipment documentation including operating and maintenance manuals, safety compliance reports and finalized design documentation.
    Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures.
    Bachelor Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
    Five years or more of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
    Experience in design and commissioning of Safety Critical Mechanical systems.
    Experience with CAD and FEA.
    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language.
