What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:
- carryout inspections and educational field visits of businesses, identify compliance issues, discuss findings and recommend corrective actions
- conduct interviews, obtain evidence and prepare detailed reports on breaches of legislation
- provide interpretation and information to registrants, government officials and other groups on compliance policies and procedures
- provide support to the investigation and enforcement functions, such as preparing affidavits, arranging exhibits, and serving summonses and orders
Note:
- This position requires the ability to travel extensively throughout the province in remote locations with limited access to public transportation.
- You may be required to work evenings and weekends.
How do I qualify?:
Mandatory:
- For the bilingual position, you must possess oral and written French language skills at the advanced level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.
Investigations Knowledge:
- you have knowledge of the due process of law, the judicial process and related evidentiary requirements to conduct compliance activities and assist in prosecutions.
- you can determine rights and responsibilities under the required legislation.
Legislative and Specialized Knowledge:
- you have knowledge of accounting principles and practices, forensic accounting and auditing concepts and procedures.
- you have knowledge of current consumer protection issues, including business practices intended to conceal, mislead or defraud consumers.
Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills:
- you can manage contentious issues, diffuse tense or difficult situations, and facilitate settlements to a dispute.
- you can identify and analyze inspection problems, and develop recommendations to resolve them.
- you can manage a heavy caseload effectively and have strong time management skills.
Research, Analytical and Evaluative Skills:
- you can analyze and assess business documents (e.g., trade record sheets, client ledgers, debtor notices), information from trust transactions and other related documents to ensure compliance.
- you can assess reports, produce evidence for court and tribunal proceedings, provide testimony, and undergo cross examination.
Communication and Computer Skills:
- you can provide information, assistance and guidance in clear, concise and accessible language.
- you can prepare, edit and proofread a variety of documents.
- you can use computer software to prepare reports, affidavits and correspondence, and manage information gathered during inspections.
