The Role:Waste Services plays an integral role in the day-to-day lives of Edmontonians by collecting, processing and disposing of solid waste for residential and non-residential customers. These functions are supported through education, volunteer and community programs; research and development; monitoring and compliance; business planning; and strong financial and utility management. The entire branch is committed to providing efficient, sustainable solid waste utility services that citizens can trust.
Goals and deliverables:
- Lead a team of supervisors and staff in the management of Waste Services (WS) assets
- Develop and implement the Branch Asset Management Policy, Asset Management Strategy and Asset Management Plans
- Provide input to the priority setting for capital projects based on the Asset Management Plans
- Monitor maintenance and operations contractor performance for the maintenance of municipal solid waste collection and processing equipment and facilities and Edmonton Waste Management Centre environmental monitoring, control and processing systems
- Monitor and manage risk related to Branch assets and to the Department as well as to the
- Provide plant engineering services for the Edmonton Waste Management Centre
- Ensure the effectiveness and performance of the unit through comprehensive, accurate and transparent reporting and performance measurement
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop strategies to support team development
- Maintain, develop and update unit processes to align with section goals and policies
- Establish the unit's work plan aligned with City Plan, strategic plans and policies
Qualifications:
- Certified Asset Management Professional (AMP) designation, or agree to obtain within 3 years
- Experience in a leadership role within a large, complex organization
- Experience in maintenance of industrial infrastructure and support activities for commercial processing operations
- Experience in the evaluation and management of contractor work performance
- Familiar with the Reliability-Centered Maintenance approach to asset maintenance
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Assets:
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation. P.Eng requires the member to be in good standing with APEGA
- Certification or coursework/training in project management, fleet and facility management, strategic planning; financial management; public administration; change management, or other leadership training
