STATUS:
Temporary Part-Time


TERM:
Until April 2024 or the return of the incumbent


COMPENSATION:
$ $28.75 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)


HOURS of WORK: 2 days on-4 days off rotation, 12-8 AM, Awake Overnight, Average 18.72 hours per week with opportunity to pick up additional hours up to 40 hours/week.

ABOUT TERRY'S PLACE
Terry's Place is a licensed, six-bed Community Living BC residence located in Barrière, BC. It houses adults with developmental diverse abilities who require support with daily living.

The goal of Terry's Place is to maximize the quality of life for all residents while supporting them through the aging process including providing end-of-life care.


ABOUT THE JOB

Our Residence Workers at Terry's Place promote quality of life for all residents by encouraging independence, supporting their well-being, and enhancing social participation.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with individuals, caregivers, and other community professionals to assess residents' needs and develop and attain individual goals. Adjusts goals and strategies as required.
  • Assesses personal care and health needs and performs care as required.
  • Provides activities that support residents' independence and encourage meaningful community connections.
  • Provides healthy meals and snacks ensuring the specific dietary needs of the individuals are met.
  • Manages general household chores including, meal plan and prep, shopping, laundry, yard maintenance, and repairs.
  • Administers medication following the agency procedures.
  • Supports residents to advocate for themselves and liaises with social workers, community resources, family, etc.
  • Teaches relationshipbuilding skills while fostering selfesteem, selfadvocacy, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Supports residents in managing their personal finances as needed.
  • Schedules appointments and transports clients using the program accessibility van. (medical, optical, and dental appointments, family visits, recreational outings, etc.)
  • Recognizes and responds to potential risks and emergency situations to minimize harm to clients, staff, and/or the public. Takes proactive measures to prevent potential aggressions and escalations.
  • Manages the residential budget including clear and accurate documentation of petty cash and spending.
  • Maintains daily client information and activity logs.
  • Ensures required documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

  • Community and School Support Worker, Resident Care Aid, or Home Support Worker Certificate
  • One (1) year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental diverse abilities
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the individual, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, crisis situations, and aggression
  • Provide life skills support using a strengthsbased approach
  • Develop and implement clientfocused schedules, plans, and goalsetting methods
  • Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
  • Take initiative, notice what needs to be done in the program, and follow through
  • Manage conflict effectively
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Run and maintain a home, including shopping, cleaning, yard work, cooking, budgeting, and meal planning.
  • Cook healthy, nutritional meals

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Class 5 DL with the ability to obtain Class 4 within the probationary period.
  • An existing Class 4 Driver's License is an asset.
  • A safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Complete set of Covid19 vaccinations (minimum two doses)
  • TB Testing showing free from tuberculosis
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs, and walkers, carrying, lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, assisting clients safely in and out of bed, and bath, and using lifts, and other health equipment appropriately.
  • This job requires a high level of personal and some palliative care.
  • This job requires union membership.
