Description

The LRV Operator is a key member of the Operations Team and is responsible for the safe, efficient, courteous operation and associated work of light rail transit vehicles.

Who We Are
TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton.

Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the Valley Line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to any where the LRT stops.


A typical day for the LVR Operator**- Operation of LRV in revenue and non-revenue service in strict compliance with the rule book and procedures pertaining to testing, commissioning and operations; Respects HSE and operating rules. Ensures these rules are followed;

  • Making public address announcements and exercising prudent judgment under a variety of conditions which may occur during a given tour of duty;
  • Assist technicians and engineers in test/investigation and test setup;
  • Supports the Operation Control Center during normal operations and service recovery situations.

  • Conduct recovery steps and procedures from on board vehicle failures of a minor nature;
  • Reports immediately any deviations to OCC any delays or incidents impacting the operating schedule.
  • When dealing with customers, ensure that matters are handled tactfully and sensitively as appropriate and strictly follow the procedures and work instructions of the organization;
  • Render all possible assistance to customers, in particular those with special accessibility needs;
  • Visual Inspection of the mainline prior to revenue service or after maintenance activities;

What you will bring to the team

  • Completion of grade 12 High school diploma or GED;
  • Must have an ability to communicate effectively in English as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;
  • Previous experience within rail transit or rail transportation industry considered an asset;
  • Defensive Driver Training considered an asset;
  • Must hold a valid Province of Alberta Driver's License Class "5" or higher;
  • Clean drivers abstract;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Basic computer skills, use of basic hand / power tools;
  • Experience in electromechanical systems and trouble shooting skills an asset.
  • Good judgement & effective in solving practical problems, responds quick, calmly and appropriately to emergency situations;
  • Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment;
  • Demonstrate a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental mindset;
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to constant change;
  • Ability to pass are pre employment testing requirements
