TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for an System Safety Specialist to join their team of Rail Professionals. Reporting to the HSQE Manager, the System Safety Specialist is responsible for all aspects of site occupational safety, health and environment and system safety to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Promote and drive safety at the site level

TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton.

Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the Valley Line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to any where the LRT stops.


A typical day for the System Safety Specialist

  • Implement, maintain and enforce safety and environmental management systems in accordance with all applicable laws.
  • Participate in accident and near miss investigations. Lead workplace hazard analyses and develop mitigation action plans. Enforce proper PPE, HS&E practises are undertaken. Enforce hazardous waste control and other applicable environmental standards
  • Ensure consistent compliance with all policies and procedures and safe practices by monitoring, inspecting and auditing. Monitor Bombardier's subcontractor, visitors and Partner activities and ensure their compliance with the site safety management system
  • Perform workplace orientations and training to employees, contractors, suppliers and visitors. Develop and deliver safety training as required. Liaise with regulators, committees, customers, site management, contractors and peers.
  • Complete HSE related reports as required.

What you will bring to the team

  • Degree from recognised learning institution in safety science, environmental science or related is field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Recognized health and safety certification is a plus
  • 5 to 10 years experience in safety and environment or related field
  • Thorough understanding of HSE management system principles
  • NEBOSH Certification required
  • Incumbent must be able to work various shifts and be able to respond to callouts to operations on a 24hour, 7 day a week basis
  • Knowledge of local rail safety standards will be an asset
