Work Location:
This role is eligible for hybrid work.

This means you'll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (in Toronto only) on a scheduled rotation.

Key Accountabilities

Note:

Policy Processing- Triages incoming underwriting submissions for property and auto and determines whether to accept, modify, or escalate risks.- Ensures that product and customer service levels are maintained.


Insurance Underwriting Calculates premiums, ensuring that appropriate rates are used and that applicable discounts and surcharges are applied.- Issuance of less complex policies.- Places business within the rules and restrictions of subscription, reinsurance, and legislative guidelines.


Broker Relationships- Explains underwriting criteria and decisions to brokers (verbally and/or in writing).- Develops and maintains working relationships with brokers to generate a flow of profitable business and assists in resolving any service matters.- Negotiates conditions, premiums, and limitations for routine renewal policies to balance business needs and underwriting guidelines in limited situations (in applicable positions only).- Promotes and educates brokers on supporting products.

Administrative Support- Maintains filing systems.- Provides administrative support to the underwriting team.


Leadership- Actively contributes to and supports a high performing workforce.- Participates in divisional succession plans, ensuring ongoing profession and career development and supports development in others.- Supports a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies.- Is actively committed to leadership development across the company, supporting team and workforce readiness through mentoring, training, and developmental opportunities.


Corporate Management- Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.- Manages risk in area of authority.- Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.


Education & Experience- One-year certificate from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business or Office Administration years' experience in an insurance industry office environment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of office procedures and office equipment.- Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.- Knowledge of underwriting procedures.- Knowledge of the principles and practice of insurance.
